Well, no. He was German, strongly implied (I don't recall it being explicitly stated) to be one of the Nazi scientists we coaxed over here after the war. In fact, the actual name "Merkwürdigliebe" is in the movie itself, the normal title was his Americanized name.

Edit: For some reason I missed the " (yeah, I know he was a Werner vB caricature, but, hey, why waste a good GoogleTranslate)" ...maybe that was edited in after I intended to reply, but before I quoted you?

I think The Quick and the Angry is too easily confused with The Swift and the Late.

It's been too long since I've enjoyed the wonder that is The Shadowy Mineral.

Although I keep getting caught up in rewatching my DVD collections of Identify the Physician & Lightning Bug, so it's not like I get bored.

You can't beat Identify The Physician for its history, although the constant reappearance of Battle-clad Eradicating Squid Nazis every season is getting old. Lightning Bug was great, but did they have to kill of Lather in Calmness?

I think that's some sort of contractual agreement, they have to appear in every series. Which is bad because, well, they're overused and never beaten and always finding a way to come back...

Also, everyone mourns Lather from Calmness, but what about poor Tome?

Pfhorrest wrote:Is "czar" really quite a synonym for "king"?

Not even a little bit. The closest it comes to is "Emporer," meaning king of kings, which would be wrong (think King/Duke, or Governor/President). But even then, It was decided during by the Pope during the 16th century that Czar didn't equate to Emperor either, and that Czar is it's own rank, above king, but below Emperor. So Czar wouldn't equate to anything if you're being strict about it, or-if you're more forgiving-would be a synonym for Emperor, which is above king. Either way, it's wrong.
Despot, Monarch, Grand Duke (if you want to keep the Russian theme) would be more appropriate synonyms for king.

I am confused.
The joke seems to presuppose that in the title "Return of the Jedi", the word Jedi is singular. The Return of ONE Jedi. The same applies to the title of the Shakespearean version "The Jedi Doth Return".
Having grown up with the German version "Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter" and being aware of the Greek version "Η Επιστροφή των Τζεντάι" I always assumed the word "Jedi" to be meant in the plural. It seems other foreign language titles disagree: "El retorno/regresso del Jedi", "Le Retour du Jedi", "Il ritorno dello Jedi".
So... what does "Return of the Jedi" mean to you?
A) You know Luke, the blond pansy farmboy? He's a Jedi apparently now and he's back.
B) You know the Jedi knights? They were gone, but now they are making a comeback (in the form of that blond pansy farmboy).

Not meant to be especially challenging, though I took liberties on a few to achieve alliteration.

The Simian Dozen (originally posted as A Dozen Primates; definitely stretching things with the revised title but it just sounds so much better)
Tenpin for Flowertown (I originally posted it as Candlepins but Tenpin probably works better)
Chuck's Cherubs
Chronology of Later People
Free Chip Platter
Starvation Sweekstakes
Ranch Hands & Rigellians
Tinsmith Seamster Warfighter Spook
Completely Remembered
5.291666... Days

Edit to add: Brawl Buddies

adding the original titles for posterity:
Spoiler:
12 Monkeys
Bowling for Columbine
Charlie's Angels
History of Future Folk
Nacho Libre
Hunger Games
Cowboys & Aliens
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Total Recall
127 Hours
Fight Club

One can presume that you are British ;) Most people not from the UK are going to have no clue what you're talking about because the Carry On films are little known outside of the UK. I only know of them because there was a question about them on the show "Pointless".

Haha, I went to look up the list of them on Wikipedia and it included this quote describing them: "The usual charge to make against the Carry On films is to say that they could be so much better done. This is true enough. They look dreadful, they seem to be edited with a bacon slicer, the effects are perfunctory and the comic rhythm jerks along like a cat on a cold morning. But if all these things were more elegant I don't really think the films would be more enjoyable: the badness is part of the funniness."

Anyway, the only thing in either the comic or the comments that I got a laugh out of was "Boron" ;)

I quite liked the original Doorway to Heaven movie, but honestly the spinoff TV series Doorway to Heaven: The First DH Team really built the fictional world up much better (the early seasons more than the later... recurring un-cancellation from seasons 8-10 kinda screwed it up then). The spinoff to that series, Doorway to Heaven: Daughter of the Bearer of the Heavens, was alright, but didn't live up to the original series. The last series Doorway to Heaven: All Of The Heavens got cancelled just as it was getting good so I guess we'll never know how it would have turned out.
Oh and I guess I forgot to mention the direct-to-video movies, Doorway to Heaven: The Box of Facts and Doorway to Heaven: It's Still Going On (alternately: Doorway to Heaven: Non-Discrete Manifold). I thought they were good enough, though really could (and should) have just been two-parter episodes in The First DH Team.

And I'm disappointed that we're never going to get the other two direct-to-video movies that were planned, Doorway to Heaven: Around And Around and Doorway to Heaven: We're All Gonna Die.

I avoided the series in first run because of the heavy military content I perceived from the promos. This is something of a trend with me: I didn't see Yellowish-beige Killer of the Undead until it was in syndication, and never did bother with its spinoff Seraph at all. Years before that I skipped the entire original run of Lunar Illumination until it was repeated on basic cable, with the result that I occasionally had to remind myself of the fourth-wall-bending references to the long delays between new episodes.
