Um, for us rank armatures stuck at work with IE 11, how do you set these?

Well, I don't know Internet Explorer and am also an amateur, but there should be a "console" tool in Explorer somewhere (wasn't hard to find in Chrome), and you can just type in the commands directly into the console as given (type "window.mewtwo=1", etc.). Then change the values back to zero. Worked for me when I got stuck in the black area!

AH! thank you.... right click the image -> Inspect Element -> click the console tab and type the commands on the bottom line at the ">" prompt

Did you find the floating island above and to the left of the Washington Monument? I believe it had two coins on it... I missed those on my first run through too.

The two I missed were the one with the birds above the Xwing, and the one straight down from the glitchy floor.

OK - so once you get 'lost' in the lava, how does one 'see' the path up and out? (Assuming "starting over" is a way un-cool thing to do?)

I feel like it took longer to get to the sides of Click & Drag. That's just a guess, though.

Click & drag was significantly bigger at 165888x79872 pixels, vs. 93366x23598 for this one.
This one can feel bigger if you've been spending a lot of time exploring the star destroyer.
As far as explorable surfaces goes (and consequently time spent exploring, after compensating for difference in exploration speed), they are probably comparable.

turn up the contrast settings, way up, on both your monitor and video card and the passageways will show as very dark grey instead of black and you can kinda see.

FYI, there's a secret area at the bottom of the deepest lake section (to the left of where you start). Drop all the way down and head left. It was difficult to get back out.

Is it just me, or does the maze-like section near the tail end of the star destroyer - with the guys wielding swords - remind anyone else of the original Prince of Persia?

55 coins in 1298 seconds before I ran out of time and had to get ready for work. Maybe I'll try again another time, but that Star Destroyer looks pretty daunting to explore.

Just goto the comic and paste the javascript line, in the address bar, removing the #. For me on Windows 10, I cannot paste the entire line unless it has the #. Both in Chrome and in IE the "javascript:" part is removed.

Anyone have a database dump of individual images and able to share it? I'm seeing full-sized pngs of the entire thing, but that's a very inefficient way of going about things...pngs require decoding entire scanlines, meaning hundreds of megapixels of overhead to get a screen-sized region.

If all else fails I can dump them myself, but seeing if anyone else has done it first so I'm not reinventing the wheel / hammering xkcd's bandwidth.

Nevermind.

Yeah there are some problems with that Latin. It looks like it was put into some translation software, which I have found is almost always wrong. "Latinae" could be Dative or Genitive singular, or Nominative plural, but it can't be a direct object. "Committitur" is 3rd person singular, in the passive voice, "It is begun." which doesn't fit for a number of reasons. "Ego" is superfluous since the verb includes "I" already.

I would go with, "Cur incepi iam dicans Latinam?"

incepi, 1st person perfect "I began"
iam, "now, by now, just"
dicans, present active participle "speaking"
Latinam, Accusative singular (direct object), "Latin"
Cur makes it a question and implies the word "did."

Of course there are many interpretations, and sometimes there is no such thing as a perfect translation. It could also be:
"Cur incepto modo dicans Latinam"
"Cur incepto iam dicans in Latina"

And if you wanted it to make sense to a Roman, you would have to specify that by Latin you meant the language:
"Cur incepi iam dicans Latinam linguam" [in Latina lingua]

No mere mortal is supposed to find all the coins. (Gandalf is, for practical porpoises, immortal)
You could do vertical scanlines (either until you reach the border between PNG-white and background-whitish or a minute up) everywhere, though. I find it more surprising if you discover the floating island. It wasn't even included in Lanzaa's first map.

Is that coin carried by European or African swallows though?

I explored for a while and got 130-ish coins before I went back and systematically got all the coins using a map someone posted earlier in this thread. It took me 2619 seconds (72.75% of an hour) for all 169 coins. I don't have the patience to try a more optimal speed-run.

Nearly stopped after the starting area. Tried escaping earlier. Stuck onto the sides. Assumed invisible walls. Proved a pleasant surprise.

Collected 161 coins in 3228 seconds. Missed the floating island and underground lair. Recognizes every spaceship room. Overlooked something else, apparently. Cannot pinpoint what.
Changes its form depending on the observer.

I got 163, didn't record my time. I missed the one above the X-Wing and the one below the glitch floor, but I haven't figured out the other four. It's possible I missed something in the Star Destroyer, but I don't think so. I did get the ones in the underground lair.

I forgot to ask before: why does it warn you not to leave the play area?

ETA:
Oh, and jc, about the 0 coins thing. The thing I found hardest about the game was avoiding that place where the coins get deposited. Whenever you get near that spot, the game ends and resets. So you get the coin to the left, and then you go for the one to the right, and - doh! you accidentally touch the deposit place, and it tells you you got 1 coin in 15 seconds and then you accidentally touch it again, and it tells you you got 0 coins in 1 second. So, before you go exploring the wide wonderful world, work hard to get the coins close to the deposit area without touching the place you deposit them. Only when you're prepared to finish should you go back and deposit the coins. And then, look fast for your score, lest you have a double touch and get the 0 coins message right afterwards.

Gee, did I just answer my own question?

Apparently the Macbook Pro has a motion sensor...This comic detects it and treats my laptop as though it were a mobile device, giving the instructions "tilt to move, tap to jump." It works (using the up-arrow key instead of tapping to jump) but it's awkward tilting a laptop to play this. The arrow keys don't really work properly on it, though. He'll move a bit, then jump, move a bit again, etc. It's very finnicky and slow, not nearly as smooth as it is using tilt. But then tilt is too sensitive and hard to control with the laptop. Trying to move left or right while jumping simply doesn't work.

I just visited as much as I could with Safari (MB Air), but could not get into lots of places due to people standing in my way. I went in with FireFox, and lo and behold, I could go right through people (and lots of other objects).

Any idea which way it is "supposed" to be? I.e. if there are tricks to beat the game without being able to go through people, then I would like to find them. But if Safari is just not doing it right and you are supposed to be able to go through people, then winning with Safari is simply impossible.

Just tried with Chrome and IE. Both allow you to pass through people. Out of 4 browsers, Safari is the odd man out (big surprise; why *do* I use it as my primary browser???). I'm going with Chrome and classifying it as "not cheating".
