I love science puns.

It is too early or I am just getting dumber, it took me three reads before I realized there was a pun.

This is immediately where my mind went...

This is the map for "future expansion" of the Boring Company's East Coast (Baltimore to DC) proposal.

https://www.boringcompany.com/eastcoast/

As an aside, has anyone looked at a real map to see if there are ACTUALLY Cash for Gold stores in those locations? Because if there are...

shouldn't those be gold for cash stores?

They're trying to save money by rapidly selling their used gold.

I admit I had to go to explainxkcd to figure out where the pun is. In case anyone else needs help: Electrical Charges vs. Criminal Charges.

I know roundabouts are all the rage these days, but this is ridiculous.

Only half-joking, I actually thought it was some kind of road map before reading any of the captions

I do like the idea of having a giant roundabout that doubles as an "accelerator ring"

As you enter the accelerator ring the floor of your vehicle would be perpendicular to earth's gravity vector. But as you accelerate into the turn you'd eventually have the floor of your vehicle be parallel to the gravity vector. It would be so much fun.

It reminded me of 253 as well.

Combining a particle accelerator and a highway system to get really shiny lane markings is probably a bad idea ... right?

Funny enough. There are a couple spots in Dallas and at least one in St. Paul that have situations that are somewhat similar to the zero choice interchange. Where you are forced off the main highway, but then back on. (In St. Paul this is the 35E and 694 interchange. Basically 35E splits into two parts and 694 merges into one of the branches and then both branches merge back together. I suspect this has to do with local terrain, but it could also be to help manager congestion.. i'm not really sure)

edit: changed geometry to terrain. Not sure why I said geometry to be honest

The local lingo (used on the traffic report!) for that section is 'the maze'.

It is one place there there is totally insufficient markings for the turn only lanes.

Wow! Just 30 m of sea level rise and Arizona gets an oceanfront beach.

Yes ...

Spoiler:
That site dates back to the days of "Holy cow, everybody! If all the ice melts off Greenland it'll raise sea levels by SEVEN METRES!"

Since then, we've ... er ... well, we've ...

There was something about re-opening coal mines, a few new pipelines, some lunatic shouting "Drill, baby! Drill!" in Alaska, a whole big fight over an oil field, a big thing about buying more gas from Russia and all that fuss about fracking to get more fossil fuels to burn, and we've gone from three arseholes making a show about how much they hate environmentalists and speed limits and love huge engines to two groups of three arseholes making two shows about how much they hate environmentalists and speed limits and love huge engines ... so ...

... I guess the outlook's worse now?
That was in 2014. Well, shit.

30m creates four large islands in Lincolnshire and one in the East Riding of Yorkshire, one near Blackpool, two at Liverpool, one at Arnhem, a few of Denmark, two east of Pisa, one of Naples and so on and puts Volgograd on the coast. The ocean coast. It'd link the Caspian and Black Seas. It'd also flood over 90% of Bangladesh, back up the Mekong to take in Angkor Wat, make Changsha tidal, make Beijing and Shenyang coastal, cut Vladivostok off from mainland Russia, flood California from Willows via Sacramento to Dos Palos, back up the Colorado into Palm Desert, come damn close to cutting Central America off from South America, wreck the ecology of the Amazon, wet the Sphinx, make the river in Baghdad stop when the tide gets high, pretty much obliterate Bahrain, cut two large islands off the west side of India, back up the Po all the way to Cremona, prevent the use of Heathrow Airport's new runway, force the British government to relocate to ... maybe Harrogate ... and ruin the White House's rose garden.

60m creates The Island of Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, New Hampshire and Massachussetts (not necessarily in that order), drowns Montreal, messes up Ottawa, puts Memphis, Tennessee, on the coast, cuts off Olympic National Park and Forest, backs the Columbia River up through Portland all the way to Rufus, still only nearly separates the Americas, splits Venezuela in two, puts Asuncion, Paraguay, on the coast, swamps Baghdad, drowns Patna in India, almost cuts off the south end of the Thai-Cambodian border, puts Hanover and Bonn on the coast, puts a lagoon into Pistoia, Prato and Florence and, well ... Otley in Wharfedale's little sailing club is going to need some bigger boats to sail round to Leicester and Tamworth.

So, would the stores pay for the rest mass of the gold or the inertial mass? RHIC accelerates to pretty close to c, so I'd really want to settle that before turning things on.

Gold and copper are both made of hydrogen.

It's baryons and baryons. Which are just clumps of quarks and quarks.
And before that, it was probably all just fields!

Don't forget the leptons. And the gauge and scalar bosons. If it weren't for the gluon, all those quarks would just fly apart.

I hope the field has a fence around it.

How do you put a fence around the strong field?
