2157: "Diploma Legal Notes"

Title text: "If you're planning to challenge the royal family, you should probably wait 6-8 weeks, since a number of the younger ones have diplomas and Kate was actually on the varsity lightsaber team at St Andrews."

Maybe I should have finished my diploma after all. Those are some nice benefits even if I would not use / invoke all of them.

True story: back in prehistoric times, a pal of mine in high school mailed off to become ordained in the Universal Life Church. He then proceeded to ordain our entire history class. I guess that means I had the power to perform marriages before getting either my high school or college diploma.

As to the rest, hey Mayflower Hill Gang: I want my money back! I certainly got none of the other perks listed here.

I graduated from UCSD 25 years ago, and still haven't received my lightsaber. What gives?

These would have to be the rights and privileges pertaining specifically to Oxford University graduates. Why would anybody else get to edit the OED?

And the question remains whether on winning the Throne, you also get the Crown.

They mailed it to you 6-8 weeks after you graduated, but it was mailed from far, far away.

Further note regarding a challenge for the British throne: You have to beat everyone in the current line of succession. The last time I checked there was something like 1300 descendants of Sophia of Hanover who had not been disqualified.

Now some won't be hard, like Archie, (who is just a baby), or Philip¹, (he's old), but there are quite a few that will be and you'll be fighting them after flying hither and yon around Europe.

1: Yes, Prince Philip is in the line of succession as the Prince of Greece and Denmark.

Unless there's a prescribed order, I imagine you could schedule matters so you only need to make the one tour rather than having to bounce around too much.

On the other hand, you'll probably need to travel the world, not just Europe.

I'd imagine you'd have to fight them in order of succession. Start with Liz, then Chuck, Will and the grandkids, then move on down the line through Lexi and her spawn and so on.

Bad plan: you run the risk of having the younger generations spawn new generations before you get to them. Start with those at or near onset of fertility and work outwards in both directions from there.

Surely you aren't implying that the combat need be to the death, are you?

I'd assume you'd have to start with the person next up from you in the order of succession.

  1. The descendants Sophia of Hanover (aka the main line of succession of Elizabeth II of House Windsor)
  2. The peers of England (dukes, earls, viscounts, and barons), then their main lines of succession.
  3. The members of the Spice Girls and Then That, then their main lines of succession.
  4. Mr. Blobby, then the teletubbies (in order of decreasing spectral frequency), then their main lines of succession.
  5. Commonwealth of Nations Guv'nor's.
  6. People who have been to Oxford or Cambridge, or order of descending GPA.
  7. People wearing bespoke Savile Row suits, in decreasing order of daperness.
  8. British citizens that use "what" as a non-interrogative intensifier, and prepend "h" to random words.
  9. People that are English by both jus sanguinis and jus soli , in order of decreasing juiciness.
  10. Other UK citizens, in order of least to most emotive.
  11. Other people of English decent.
  12. Other people of decent of any current or former part of the British empire, order determined by dance-off to Bollywood show-tunes.
  13. Corgis, in decreasing order of cuteness.
  14. Other humans, ordered by English language spelling bee.
  15. Catholics, by the same order as above as if they were not disqualified.

I bet they can just summon their best knight to fight for them? 'Let's hear it for Knight Rider!'

So can I erase the word 'the' from the dictionary?

Don't they have ships that can travel the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?

GoT reference in the comic, Princess Bride reference in the discussion, bonus points for an already funny comic.

Aren't British Knights now just elderly entertainers, like Sir Elton John and Sir Ian McCellan? Most of them should be pretty easy.

And I don't see how you'd have to off them in order of succession. As long as they're dead, they can't take the throne.
"Numbers 1 through 30 are all dead. Ring up number 31."
"He was murdered last year."
"Oh, well. Try number 32."

If you take them out in order, then everybody gets a fancy coronation ceremony. After 1,300 of those, the country would be too broke to be worth ruling. Maybe after a few die, others will renounce their claim to the throne.

Larger numbers will have some, but not the maximum level of royal security. Taking them out first will give you some valuable experience you'll need to take out the top dogs. If you're going to murder the entire line of succession of a country, start with something like an Archduke.

Two are correct.
- No, son. I said 'duck'.
- Duck duck duck duck! Duck duck duck duck!

I enjoyed his story about pre-his-story-c times.

I'm wondering if we can refer to other epochs as being pre-other-subjects. Pre Social Studies times? Pre Algebra times? Pre Study Hall times?

Pre-Madonna times?

That would be the singing class for sopranos.

I thought that show was a drama, not a musical?

* Also, the pop signer can't hit C6, disqualifying her from singing soprano
