Title text: My brother had a ferret he loved which died since I drew this strip. RIP.

It's a lovely comic, but the real reason I created this discussion was after seeing this guy:

That's such a beautiful comic. I really liked the follow-up with the boy in the bucket with the ferret. I think that was the comic that inspired me to read through the entire archives.

I'm new to the forums, but let me say: this strip describes my entire life. let me say, that boy holding the ferret at the end is me.

I assume you mean the boy in the end of this one, not the boy in the end of the Barrel series. I suppose he was being held by the ferret, really.

I wasn't all that big a fan of this comic, but I liked the follow-up in Barrel 5. I was very depressed when the Barrel was first shown to have drowned. I much prefer the ferret ending to that series.
Don't you hate signatures like this:

If you have no originality, copy this into your signature...and have a signature no different from lots of other people! Kind of defeats the point of sigs.

There is no way I can't connect this to one of my favorite series on flying, Richard Bach and his ferret pilot stories. I wonder if Randall knows about that or it's just one of those cosmic things about ferrets...

Well thing is people actually do that:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZn_gliSMhQ (for example)

(and I know that Veso guy, he is a mean aerobatics pilot)

It's actually useful, the birds can show you how to fly pretty literally.

edit: Bonus points: find the connection between raptors and parahawking :)

Ferrets ought to be able to fly. Not all the time, though; that'd just be silly. They should grow wings every now and then, kind of like how you only see flying ants once a year (although as I understand it, that isn't a case of ants gaining wings, but of winged ants [potential queens] being hatched). Maybe if ferrets had wings for one week every ten years, it would yield enough awesomeness to tide the world over.

d'awwww!

Except for the fact that the ferret is trying to kill the bird. But that's just a small detail.

On the other hand, killing prey midflight also seems like a bad idea.

Which is what the woodpecker is hoping. Its nature's equivalent of dragging your would-be car-jacker down the highway.

Forumites from outside the UK should note that HES is self-avowedly from "Oop North", albeit his "Location" is currently in denial; and that northerners know a thing or two about ferrets as adversaries.

Yes, I believe it did. It landed, and the ferret was startled enough to go its own way.

I would expect a weasel to not be easily startled by an existential crisis, but maybe since it thought it was a ferret, and a ferret would...

Okay, my thread for this comic has been merged by mod, but I did try to search before starting the topic with the keyword "Ferret". Because there are many, I used the advanced search function and search within "Topic titles only" but got nothing. That's why I assumed there hasn't been this thread yet so I made one. Does the menu "Search within" only give the exact topic title?
