I find it hilarious that the second frame is so reminiscent of a bunny.

Otherwise, it's hilarious anyway.

No original commentary? [Edit: Well, there wasn't any when I started this reply. Come on, is it that hard to do the whole post in one go? Is not creating the thread that much of a disaster?]

Anyway, I thought this one was hilarious. (And I am a committed Christian, in case anyone cares; there's nothing that says we can't have a sense of humour about our own religion, though I acknowledge that some don't.)

I can just imagine the hymns: "... Praise Father, Son, and... um..."

Man, if a kid taking some crackers home from mass is enough to raise the ire of the Catholic League, I can't imagine the ruckus that this is going to cause.

All I can say is that Randall is in for some hate mail...

Looks like nobody'll be calling THEM anymore... I guess they'll just have to get Luigi to deal with their otherworldly problems from now on. Or maybe Daffy Duck.

I would hope that it is pretty obviously tongue in cheek, but you can get hate mail for some really petty stuff.

I'd be interested to see if this one generates any, but it's hard to imagine it would.

I still hold that Ghostbusters is in the top 5 all time greatest comedies. Some call me crazy.

I had a good belly laugh at this one, or for the sake of brevity, I lol'd.

I lol'd. I love how Randall's delightfully twisted little mind works. This one could almost work as a Robot Chicken sketch, too.

I doubt there will be hate mail, because the concept itself is so deeply ridiculous, and you have to look to relative depth before you can interpret anything as being truly offensive.

I say this from a Christian standpoint.

Personally, I lol'd.

Ah, but if they also had to be stuck with my bizarre sense of humour it might not be so good. Unfortunately it only comes as a package deal (and there's no way to turn off the "incoherent rambling" option, though anecdotal evidence suggests that getting more than a few hours of sleep per night may help).

You'd be surprised how shallow a basis is needed to cause offense. There are people out there who will react to some pretty inane stuff.
But I lol'd as well.

Also, the concept of what would have to be the Swiss Guard disarming the Ghostbusters of their Proton Packs is just amazing to me (in their funny uniforms too! maybe with poleaxes!).

I'm not Catholic, so I can't comment on the apocrypha, but about the scripture needing revision, the Bible doesn't actually contain the word "trinity". The concept of trinity is definitely found in the Bible, but never stated directly.

Does anybody find the Pope figure immensely creepy? I mean, stick figures without faces I can handle, but a man with what otherwise appears to be a full body and no face….

(Then again, in the right light, the actual pope looks kind of scary as well.)

Damn. I had to read this one twice because of the sheer absurdity of it. That and I'm used to hearing Holy Spirit instead of Holy Ghost. But so funny.

(Anyone who sends hate mail for this comic has no sense of humor. Said hate mail should then be made public for all to see and ridicule.)

Does anyone think the art looks a little sloppy on this one? Maybe it was just Randall trying to make the bishop stick figure look old and wrinkly (actually, I'm pretty sure that's the reason), but my immediate reaction to seeing him was "this must be a fan comic or something."

Also, do people really think Christians are so easily offended? This comic is not even really poking fun at Christianity, it's a play on the term Holy Ghost. Granted, there are Pat Robertson types who may get offended at anything, but I doubt such people are regular readers of XKCD.

Calvinist here. That's not the unforgivable sin. The popular conception of "unforgivable sin" is pretty inaccurate, mostly based on a misunderstanding of what "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" constitutes.
