Mine used to play the Piracy Music ("You wouldn't steal a car..."), but that got confusing when I was watching DVDs :(

It currently rings the Team Fortress 2 theme.

Ahh, this is one after my own heart. Thought I admit, even I have fallen.

Thant being said, it is mostly out of laziness that I don't change my "ringtone" from the default.

Amen to that brother. Amen!

I for one shall never have that as a regret either. Oooooh and marvel at the shades of color... I wonder if there is some hidden subtext there I am not smart enough to decipher.

I don't like the old ringing style ringtone. To each his own, though. Mine plays Super Mario Bros, World 1 song by default. When I get a message, it plays the Mega Man death sound.

Mine plays something called "Sooth". But mostly it's on silent. I should really make my own ringtone.

The only two rings I would ever consider:

Ringing, dammit, as a phone should.

An obnoxious male voice going, "RINGing here! Hello, somebody answer me! What are you deaf? I'm RINGing!"

Ah! What's it called!! I love those commercials. Life alert, Lil' reminder, and that phone are a trifecta of senior awesomeness!

My phone is always on vibrate. But in the (very rare) event I need my phone to make some sort of audible tone, it's always a ring. None of this music business.

Code: Select all

_=0,w=-1,(*t)(int,int);a()??<char*p="[gd\
~/d~/\\b\x7F\177l*~/~djal{x}h!\005h";(++w
<033)?(putchar((*t)(w??(p:>,w?_:0XD)),a()
):0;%>O(x,l)??<_='['/7;{return!(x%(_-11))
?x??'l:x^(1+ ++l);}??>main(){t=&O;w=a();}

I enjoyed this comic. Maybe because I am among those who don't have crazy songs as their ringtones. Though it could be because my phone is about 5 years old, I'm still rocking "Bell 1", which sometimes confuses me 'cause a few TV shows use it for their landline phone ring. The only ring I'd change it to on purpose would be the music from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyeYq9XI4MM about 50 seconds in. I also like the sunrise/sunset/apocalypse in the window of the comic. Good stuff.

I really like how the tones of color in the window serve as a distractor as to what the title of the comic means.

I really want my phone to do an actual ring, but in earnest, none of the rings on the phone do justice to the actual sound. I can't stand listening to them.

The best ring tone I ever heard on a cellphone was the one my one CS professor owned: it's the sound of a rotary phone ringing.

The worst one I ever heard was this intentionally obnoxious voice that started shouting "Someone is calling so pick. me. up! RINGRINGRINGRINGRINGRING--" luckily the ONE time I heard it go off, it didn't get past that point before the owner answered it.

Me, I don't own a cell phone and have all but committed to never getting one until the Goddamned FCC steps in and draws up a set of standards for how phones and carriers work together. Namely, none of this vendor lock-in bullshit, none of this limiting certain features to members of the same "network" (what the fuck is this, AIM?), and none of this "every company has its own designated towers so you can't go anywhere in the country without one being in view" idiocy. If there was ever proof that the government should have taken over the phone system in the US like they did with the postal system (and like the UK did, I think), cell phone providers are it.

Uh, tangent aside... I'd just always have mine on vibrate.

I have one "ringing" ring tone on my phone.. but even its not anywhere close to being considered "traditional"

Its a male voice saying "brrrrring" softly at first, then louder and louder and the final one is simply him screaming "RING!"

I laugh every time my father calls me 8)

That, however, is not to say I don't have music on my phone.

I have to admit, I have a vast collection of video game MIDIs on my phone to use as ringers, but I loaded all of them onto it myself. Paying for ringtones seems ridiculous to me.

That said, I am sorely tempted by the prospect of using "Never Gonna Give You Up" as a ringback.

Mine used to play the Katamari Damacy theme song, though I stopped that after someone called me when I was driving and I ran into a small dog :twisted:. For a while I had it playing some music from Final Fantasy V, right now it is playing the opening of the hamster dance.

novelty ring tones (dont mention the pun)
Current mood: social rant
Category: social rant Life

Fuck novelty ring tones. Straight out- Fuck 'em. They are annoying, shitty, ill-conceived whateverphonic morsels of consumer driven crap designed to appeal to classless image whores desperate to achieve self-worth by slutting themselves out to fad mongering jerks with less grip on reality than Dr Tim Leary. And who needs a fucking video to accompany their ringtone anyway? No-one gives a shit. You arent clever, just a fucking idiot wasting time and money on a temporary fascination. I laugh at YOU, not your fucking gummi bear (edit: or crazy frog or poncy rabbit with a shitty cutesy name). Tool. Just answer your phone quickly, or leave the fucking thing on silent.

An old diatribe of mine from a while ago... it seemed relevant.

(One of my nicknames is Tones, by the way... its like Randall wrote it just for me. But you all can share.)

El cheapo phone with monophonic ringer == all the "ringing noise" ringtones suck. In considered it... but no. Just no.

I'm happy with my current ringtone... "Titania's Theme" from Starship Titanic... 3 lines of music, but syncopated, so that no two lines are playing a note at the same time... so it sounds (almost) polyphonic.

Code: Select all

It bothers me a lot that these days, cellphones don't even come with anything resembling those old telephone ringing sounds. It's always one of those strange unnatural melody ringtones which I abhor. It's also sad that I hear pop song mp3's as ring tones more often than I hear normal ringing sounds from phones. As in, if you play something from the Black Eyed Peas, you'd get 5 people picking up their phones while nowadays, when my normal ringtone rings, I know it's for me. Bizarro world!

Then again, I think the Bluetooth Retro Handset is cool.

I need to record an old-school cell phone ringtone to put into my current phone. Also need to get one of those old style phones that slid open, like in The Matrix. Hell, I need to design a new retro-phone. That would be awesome.

HELL YES. And I thought I was the only one.

I cringe every time someone's phone erupts with a violent fanfare of the latest pop hit craze. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR YOUR QUESTIONABLE TASTE IN MUSIC. A phone should RING. End of story!

Using your favorite song as a ring tone cheapens its value and turns it from something special into something mundane. I do not approve!

Every new phone I get, though, moves farther and farther away from having an actual ringing tone. I hate it with a passion that burns with the white hot fires of a thousand suns!

I just can't stand people who both constantly flop on ring tone musical choice AND lets the entire social circuit hear it every single time it changes. Still, beats quoting Monty Python references as a means for conversation.

That said, I'll swap away from my "ringing" ringtone to a more musical number when I can find one that I can live with for a looooong time and really gives out the proper self expression vibes as well. Still searching!

Phones used to ring because they had bells inside them. The bells are gone and you still want it to ring?

Mine actually has two different ones. One is real ringing (Get out of my head Randall), and the other is a constant 17 kHz tone that is my "silent mode" ringer.

Just find a song you enjoy, and set the ringer to an interlude in that song, like a solo or something. That way, it sounds good and not totally obnoxious, and its much easier to get into, since it doesn't have words to get annoying and mundane after a while.
