Because chipmunks babbling for 0.2 seconds is an effective audio preview.

This is so hilarious!
Has XKCD finally begun its takeover of the world or is somebody at Youtube on our side?

The second I saw it I thought of this comic.

I think that xkcd has a larger impact than you think; though your average person on the street may not know of it (most of the time*), the people in charge may; its the kind of thing that attracts intelligent minds.

*at the sydney meetup we actually had a random person walk up to us who didnt know of the meeting but loved xkcd.

The comments threads on wikinews are starting to rival youtube comments threads.

The discussion here is particularly good:

I like how almost every single commentator feels a need to start a new section for their comment.

That's just because the "click to add new comment" link does that automatically. Until the LiquidThreads extension is ready and rolled out, I'd say it's a better solution than the probable alternative wall of text. On the other hand, I think an implementation of "Audio preview" would do wonders on some Wikipedia noticeboards.

Oh. My. F*ing. God!

Also, is it same to assume that I'm not the only person who saw that button, and instantly thought of the comic, than came straight to the forums?

Someone at Google Inc. obviously reads XKCD.

I've been lurking for a while now, but I want to use my first post to comment on how nice it is that xkcd has a stake in the flow and way of the internet. If Youtube payed attention to what he says, who's to say that another company may follow suit?

Congratulations, xkcd and Youtube, for making everything a little more awesome.

It's quite same to assume that, as well as to assume that you're not the only one who posted before actually reading through the thread, or learning basic typing skills or proper comma usage.

I would like to know if one of the people who works for youtube saw this comic and then suggested to put it on the comments.
They picked a wicked creepy voice for the readback thing though.

Yeah. That's what I did.

I hope Randall is satisfied. A webcomic artist convincing the owners of one of the largest websites on the interblag to add a feature? I know I would be.

So I definitely just noticed the audio button on YouTube (OK so I'm slow, but I don't post comments often), and the first thing I thought of was this and came to see if other people had noticed. And of course they had! I'm sort of in awe of the influence xkcd obviously has had.

I was just about to post that exact link myself... I think it's impressive that xkcd's getting mentions in the mainstream (ie: non-nerd audience) media... and in a newspaper that typically finds it necessary to explain technical terms like "web browser" in its tech articles, no less...
