0506: "Theft of the Magi"

Alt Text: Every Roomba needs a dueling harness.

Is it just me, or does the harness look suspiciously like a headcrab?

I hadn't thought about the gift of the Magi for some time. Nice to bring back the memories.

You gotta love the old switcheroo. Actually, I am not sure if this is a switcheroo in the most rigorous sense, but it is close enough for me to insist on using the word.

Looks like we created our threads at the same minute. But this one seems to have been a few seconds earlier, judging by the replies. *sigh* Oh well. Could a link be included in the OP?

Said the Cat. "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat. "or you wouldn't have come here."

Currently, there are four Google returns for "dueling harness", none of them related to xkcd - yet.

Randall: How dare you play Left 4 Dead on the Xbox?! First person shooters hurt so much on consoles, and EA tends to fuck up Valve's games whenever they release console versions.

Anyway, L4D (at least on PC, haven't tried console) kicks major ass. This coming from the guy who plays videogames ~5 hours a month.

Oh, I really love this adaptation of Gift of the Magi.

People love adapting it so much, but I don't think I've ever seen it done with misanthropy and stealing.

Big ups to Randall Munroe for finding something fresh in a pretty tired (but still lovable) story.

The Gift of the Magi is a Christmas story about a poor family. One brother sells his pocket watch to buy his sister a comb to braid her hair. However, the sister sells her hair to get his a chain for his pocket watch. The moral is that these children were good people, giving up what they valued most to help each other, and it's ironic that it didn't work out.

Hey, real quick,I know this has probably been asked befor, but I still have to ask. Is there ever going to be an XKCD Comic Collection Book?

Mine too, but the sibling version has probably been done as well. It's an adaptable plot.

After such a deep and philosophical comic as the last one was, it's nice to have a follow-up comic that is just plain simple and straightforward as this one. And hooray, Black Hat Guy and his girlfriend/wife or something are back.

So twisted.

Kinda makes me think of that Killers' version of Santa...

"Well the party's over kid, because I, because I got a bullet in my gun!"
"...a bullet in your what?"

Well, in my version (which was very nice, and had it's own little book enclosure thingy) they were orphaned brother and sister, if I recall correctly. I didn't hear about anything...wrong...there. Interesting to note where people's minds are, though.

I followed the link on wikipedia to The Gift of the Magi.

One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies.

Does anyone else see a problem with this?
