The next googlebomb for Roomba duelling harnesses will be a DIY blog explaining how to make one. Invariably.

Just because one major directly segues into a career does not mean the other is useless; only that the latter is more broadly applicable. Besides, if you're in dire straits, you can always sell an xbox. Maybe a roomba.

(Edited for clarity)

But how do you get the xbox or roomba in the first place? Yes, you do need writing for every good career, but you also need more than just the ability to write. You have to have the knowledge to write about.
You may laugh because I'm different, but I laugh because you're all the same...

Not necessarily; you underestimate the role of on-the-job training. Most of what you learn in any major will be inapplicable to your eventual career (much like 90% of your neuroscience classes will not be directly used in psychiatry). It's the techniques you learn in school that ultimately benefit you. Writing is a broadly applicable technique.

Your question of where to get the xbox or roomba from is like how you get the first pair of scissors: if all scissors are in that unopenable plastic that you need scissors to open, how do you get the first pair of scissors?

Yes, but he wasn't saying that you only need writing, he said that you need it.

Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

O. Henry wrote:One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it in pennies."

Forget the three-cent pieces, you're missing O. Henry's wit. I've always interpreted this opening line to be a classhole act. Messing with the minds of his readers, or a piece of humor for the observant.

He's also consciously breaking a stylistic rule - never open a paragraph (much less a whole story) with a number - yet successfully sucks you into the story with an engaging opening paragraph. The guy was an amazing writer.

And teaches you to make those trains run on spices.

There is dramatic irony in both "The Gift of the Magi" and this comic because they sell their possession for which their partner bought an accessory for (hair comb - hair, pocket watch chain - watch; Left 4 Dead - Xbox, Battle Harness - Roomba). That all checks out.

However, this is double irony in The Gift of the Magi.

Her hair will grow back and she will be able to use the comb... he will never get his watch back.

Well, assuming he hasn't opened it, he can just trade in Left 4 Dead for the PC version. She has to buy a new Roomba.

Anyone else notice that BHG's GF is BHG(BlackHairGirl)?

So in essence, BHG dates BHG.

Wow. The authors evil side is a gay tranvestite dating itself infront of the blogosphere of porn (or/b/). Yet again the mobius strip of the internets strikes, AGAINAGAIN!!!!! (see my other post: http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30928&start=120#p1021681)
I think, without a doubt, I have proven that XKCD is a ghey tranvestite that isalso straight, but a hermaphrodite. Congratulations internets, your mobiusstrip strikes again.

Yes you do, considering that the general census is BHG, not BHM. Notice the authors quotes from earlier, everyone on the internet is wrong.

Does anyone else see a problem with this?

No.... sixty cents of it were in pennies, a dollar and a quarter of it were in quarters, and another two cents were also in pennies. Simple, really.

actually I can't blame my country (Brazil) for not knowing what an Xbox is, it's sold all around here. I'm just not into electronic games gadgets. Maybe even the average north-korean teenager knows it, and I'm way over my puberty.

Did anyone notice the harness could be a reference to Hannelor's Roomba in QC?

Yeah, i think she gets it around comic 700. Pintsize looses to it in a makeshift joust, where the Roomba has a harness holding the lance
