Hee! I r dork who goes GLEE! Somerville reference! ....dork. :D

(also, creepiest alt. text EVAR! Thanks for putting this evening-FCC-network image in my head of Obama and Lincoln, Randall...yes, they're both naked with strategic family safe angles, Lincoln is standing closer to the camera so you only see Obama's legs and shoulders and head, Lincoln is waist up, with just the top hat on, baby... My brain is no longer a safe place for me... I may move out, it's your fault.)

I laughed so hard at the alt-text, best alt-text in a long time.

...in order to imply that the searcher is dim.

On a related note, I wouldn't call Sarah Palin "down"; she's popular enough in some circles to be able to support her entire clan on speaking engagements in front of rich men's shill-and-suck-up societies---excuse me, "conservative think-tanks"----for the rest of her days. Also, see the first panel http://thepaincomics.com/weekly081126.htm.

I would take issue with the term "fanfic" in the alt-text, since I think "slashfic" is really meant, and it's a proper subset: not all fanfic is slashfic, it just seems that way sometimes. Most of the rest of it is, however, Mary Sue, which I thought was the point of the joke in the main panel.

I recall hearing a "This American Life" segment about a polygamous C.o.J.C.o.L.D.S. offshoort that itself schismed over the issue of "three in a bed".

Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

I think the ethanol thing is poking fun at Obama's alternate energy source ideas/promises?

I live in Utah. It's because everyone is told to stay as far away from things like "men kissing" as possible, so naturally, that's what they google :)

Oh, and when you search for something in google trends, don't seperate it with a comma, that indicates to different searches dorks.

I was playing with google trends a few weeks ago, and was curious about who is searching for 'porn' - I noticed that Utah was one of the lowest states... wow - a religion that practices what they preach, I thought... then I searched for 'pornography'. Ah! they just have a better vocabulary. they also come up #1 for 'naked girls', 'bikini', 'hot dancing girls' various porn stars, and almost every other specific phrase (including the more graphic ones). Utah is kind of cool, because most of the people at least say they are mormons - where else can you find this kind of demeographic info?

On the plus side, they also come up top (or near) for linux, debian, 'sql injection' and google (but, who googles for google?)

Y'all don't live in areas with gasohol? The intent is to cut down on petroleum use by adding 10% ethanol to the mix. We use it around here in the winter because it's supposed to reduce pollutants, which is important during inversions.

There some debate on its actual effectiveness.

Obama has been writing Lincoln/Obama erotic fan fiction on his secret livejournal. Excerpt: Lincoln lay back on the bed, nude save for his trademark stovepipe hat. 'Tell me,' he purred seductively, as he and Obama formed a more perfect union. 'When you come, is it 10% ethanol?'

My ex-gf used to right a lot of slash fanfic both on fanfiction.net and now (with House and Heroes groups) in livejournal. ONCE, and only ONCE I dared reading a part of any of those, the pain is still deeply friend in my neurons. I shall never forget.... As I know that I need to send this to her, and I'm amused that some of her friends will definitely write the whole fanfic after this excerpt.

I wouldn't call Sarah Palin down either. She still has a big following. I don't dislike Sarah Palin jokes because she should somehow be off-limits. I haven't seen much evidence in the last month or so that there is any humor potential left in the concept of Palin being stupid, ignorant or corrupt.

Ethanol production for fuel is a big political concern in the Midwest (where they grow a lot of corn, which is the basis for a lot of our renewable ethanol production). There is a mandate in many parts of the country to use 10% ethanol blends in fuels. I took the alt-text as a reference to Obama's support for ethanol production.

Ethanol is supposed to reduce our dependence on oil because it is a renewable resource. Unfortunately, the energy costs to make ethanol from corn are close to the energy produces as ethanol. As yumitori pointed out, there is debate on the effectiveness of using corn for ethanol.

Ithink Chicago is probably the part of Illinois least fanatical about Lincoln. 'Course, I just happen to live in the town named after him, am thirty minutes from the capitol with a museum, library, and tomb that make most of their income off his name, and have multiple friends and teachers who know the names of the all family and what they died from. Two months ago, we had the distinguished senator give his presidential speech at the town square (and my boss dressed up in period clothing to go watch). Oh, and there's a plaque near a well showing Lincoln stopped for a drink there.

On a side note, all the grad schools I'm applying to are out of state.

This is the most disgusting and mean-spirited xkcd yet. Apparently Mr. Munroe has decided that good taste and his comic should be meeting somewhat less often. And it seems that he wishes to continue the liberal bloggers' trend of attempting to destroy Sarah Palin at every turn, even a month and a half after the election is over. It shows a visceral hatred of the kind that liberals claim they are opposed to, and yet continue to display at every turn. Perhaps they should actually attempt to live out their ideals before they continue to attack people without cause.

Come to think of it, it seems more is revealed about YOU (balesirion), as you've apparently decided that this comics only hates on Palin, than is exposed about the comic itself. If, by visceral hatred, you meant "sense of humour," and by "destroy" you mean "gently rib." And I'm going to stop there, since this a forum for nerdy comics about stick-figures that rickroll Rick Astley, and I prefer my mean-spirited, hatred-driven liberal ideals to be expressed in a venue where they really matter.
