0575: "Tag Combination"

Postby EcoReck20 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:00 am UTC

Image

Alt Text: I love Eileen / and want you to love her / When you're around / I'm one floor above her / If you could see / just how much I adore her / Oh, that pretty red dress / I'd do anything for her / (Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye ayy)

You know, I might have ACTUALLY suggested some of these.

I accidentally my too ra loo ra.
Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

Come On Eileen and I Touch Myself. That wasn't hard.

Come On, Eileen is from the fantastic group Dexy's Midnight Runners. They were a one-hit wonder in the US (hitting #1 for one week), but had a few other top 10 songs in the UK. I highly recommend the following, for anyone who likes soul, celtic, rock, ska, rhythm and blues, or has earholes:

Brilliant.

I'm proud to say that I know all of those songs even though I'm pretty sure I was only alive when one was actually recorded. Go me! (:

I think I need to re-educate myself in music... and most other pop culture. Most people I know go o.0 at my 'who is that' questions.

Yes, Randall Monroe. Yes.

This is why I think you are the man. Because you're good at everything. You're like freaking Van Gogh or Bo Jackson.

You can thank me later.

Many media library programs will let you tag a song with various identifiers, so you can, say, search for all songs about lesbians or voyeurism. The person on the right in the comic is inventing songs that would have a certain combination of tags.

It goes with the tune of "i touch myself" and is funny because it has the words (essentially) from "come on eileen."

The lyrics are more from I Touch Myself than Come On, Eileen. At first i thought Randall alternated between the two (but to the tune of I Touch Myself), but the "when you're around" and "if you could see" lines don't match anything in Come On, Eileen...unless he's mishearing some of the lyrics ("see" instead of "means")...which is entirely possible since Kevin Rowland wasn't known for his intelligibility.

The "(Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye ayy)" line is pure Dexy's...the title of the album with Come On, Eileen was Too-Rye-Ay.

BTW, i'm sure that there are several people of my generation who had their first masturbation to the video for I Touch Myself.

Probably is. I read it twice and then it started making awesome, hilarious sense.

This is so brilliant! I used to sing along to the Divinyls as a kid (yes NOW I realise how wrong that was) so i was singing along to the alt text in my head..... IIIII I honestly did!
BTW the Divinyls were more that one hit wonders (in Australia at least) they even have a greatest hits.. strangely enough almost every one of the song titles on that album would be great material for this game...
Divinyls greatest hits album track list...
1. Boys in Town
2. Science Fiction
3. Siren
4. Only Lonely
5. Casual Encounter
6. Good Die Young
7. In My Life
8. Pleasure and Pain
9. Sleeping Beauty
10. Temperamental
11. Back to the Wall
12. Hey Little Boy
13. Punxsie
14. I Touch Myself
15. Love School
16. Make Out Alright
17. I'm on Your Side
18. Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart
19. I'm Jealous
20. Human on the Inside

I don't listen to music, so I didn't get it at all until I came here. I suppose it wasn't my kind of strip, though funny enough once it was explained. I do realize I'm in the minority here in not listening to music, by the way.

I think Randall has sold out.
Only "Jessie's Girl" was ever on Guitar Hero. He shouldn't have any knowledge about the other three songs.

Well, the other three songs are on Singstar. That's probably close enough.

Possibly one everyone seems to have missed in the last panel: When You Come, Crowded House. Not a one-hit wonder, but definitely a song.

It just made me think of lesbian sex.
