I loved this comic. I'm going to be singing too-ra-loo-rye-ay all day long.

I'm surprised the comic didn't make use of "Down Under" (though I still get angry when people think of Men at Work as a one-hit wonder. Who Can It Be Now? is enough of a counterexample).

Nothing Compares to Breakfast at Tiffany's!
She Blinded Me with Afternoon Delight
Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Jones

mmmmm

Edit: I know Simon and Garfunkel are not one hit wonders, but sticking any two female-named songs into a single line is lame unless there's some parellelism going on.

The alt-text makes the comic. I sang it at school and got some weird looks. Ah, well...

Interesting link for Ben Folds, Ben Lee, or Ben Kweller fans: Here.
It's an amazing cover of I Touch Myself.

It's OK - I think the rest are on Sing Star (I can confirm the songs I touch myself and Come on Eileen off the top of my head, and it's easily conceivable that Stacy's Mom is on one of the discs, too).

Well, the other three songs are on Singstar. That's probably close enough.

Oh damn, I didn't notice this post. :(

never underestimate the power of good satirical metal to produce disturbing results for this:

"Tentacles on my Preschool Prostitute"

Tentacles= HP Lovecraft Historical Society
Ham on my Bone= Gwar
Preschool Prostitute= Gwar

I could get much more disturbing with Cannibal Corpse titles, but, I really don't want to...

a randomly humourous one I just thought up"
"I Slept With U+Ur Hand and All I Got Was This Stupid Song"

I Slept With Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song= Fall Out Boy
U+Ur Hand= Pink

"Four Coin Operated Cheerleaders"

Coin Operated Boy= Porcelain and the Tramps
Four Dead Cheerleaders= Dropkick

I have an mp3 of a song that I tell people pretty much guarantees that the listener will go straight to hell. The song is "I touch myself", but it's sung by a girls choir. Yes, under aged girls singing in perfect harmony "when I think about you I touch myself."

Straight
To
Hell.

If someone wants to host it, PM me and I'll upload the file somewhere. I don't want to be lonely in hell.

I'm surprised nobody recognized the xkcdb reference in there. Of course, it was Randall in the quote who said this also... I'll have it up in a minute

<&Randall> which makes me sad :(

Glad you found a way to share it with the masses, Randall!

Also, this finally made me bother with getting an account. Yay xkcd!

Nothing new about that kind of thing - Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" has a mixed children's choir singing "Every Sperm is Sacred".

I've often wondered if I was the kind of parent who would let my daughter sing a song like that...

*blinkblink* I DO that. Kind of. I take music videos, replace the music with a different song that absolutely does NOT make sense (such as an emo music video with a country song, or a metal video with 90's rap) and see what happens. Then splice the titles. My titles aren't nearly as funny. but the videos turn out surprisingly well.

Example: (yes, a shameless plug) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SSMlUFA9CY

That one was the first one I ever did, and was actually accidental. I didn't edit the video at all, and yet he seems to be lipsynching for the first half or so.

Am I the only one who thinks this comic really need a video, like the XCKD <3s the Discovery Channel videos?
If my voice was better (or I wasn't tone deaf) I'd totally volunteer to sing.

Hey! Crowded House, Dexy's Midnight Runners and the Divinyls were not One Hit Wonders! I'll be writing to the Queen about this outrage.

The Winner Takes It All Out Of Love Potion Number Nine In The Afternoon Delight

(This comic made me think that it was straight out of one of my music trivia games.)

More likely plain old genre tags, usable everywhere.

This is the best comic ever made by anyone, even though being British I have trouble accepting the premise of Dexys being one-hit-wonders

Fountains of Wayne was not quite a one-hit wonder, they had one other popular song (Someone to Love).

I must be missing something...every time I read the alt text I wind up hearing an old Irishman in my head...singing to the tune of an Irish lullaby...

Damn, if only I knew music...

Is I touch myself really a one hit wonder? I guess it depends on where your from, in Australia The dyvinyls (Or however it's spelled) had more hits for sure, but I guess in America they're one hit wonders.

This comic is so, so much win.

But looking at this thread depressed me quite a bit. If I elaborate I may offend a bunch of people, though... But it's like a mix of the alt text of this comic and the general body of this comic.

I think that when it comes down to it, I'm a nerd, and love nerds -- but can't stand geeks. All that obsessing over minor details of something that is actually extremely unimportant... I'll be over here, reading Jane Austin, thank you very much.

Please, please, please do this for "When you come on Eileen I touch myself"!
...although I would still love to hear someone record the new lyrics over "I touch myself," I keep catching myself singing snatches of it. It doesn't help that I have the Save Ferris cover of Come On Eileen that keeps popping up in my iTunes.
