LMAO although, I can't quite tell whether this is a diss at bug reports, that guy, or just some completely irreverent joke.

This makes sense, and is funny, but I feel like the same joke could be told in a more realistic fashion.

Sweet art in panel 3.

Yes, because this was definitely the best and most time-efficient method of attempting to resolve the bug.....

I'd have just hired BHG to kidnap me a few kids to test on. Or, I know a guy who lives right next to a kindergarten who'd be willing to pick me up a few.

It's a pun on the word "reproduce". Gah.

Having used a bug-tracking system before makes the joke that much worse. >.<

Just twerk the Ubuntu wifi autoconfig script. You will have access to the Lenhart children in minutes.

I wonder what other kind of vaguely suggestive terminology lurks in professional environments that i am simply too tired to think of...

The guy who submitted the bug should at least be glad it wasn't assigned to Ulrich Drepper...

But upon reproducing, you'd have a bigger bug to deal with.
One that grows and eventually talks back.

It would take them 9 months for gestation + about 1.5 years for the child to learn enough language to speak. That means it would take them about 27 months to test the bug and fix it. Because of this I'm going to assume that they are time travelers and will inform their past selves about the bug after they have replicated it in the future. That, or they're actually members of an ailen or genetically altered species who's young come out able to fully speak.

Bringing that up in the alt-text would have had me declaring a tie with the bobcat one. Oh well. It was a brilliant groaner of a pun, anyway.

I don't get it.

Either I don't get it because I have only taken one FORTRAN programming class or it's because my parents never gave me the talk. :(

I dislike the casual attitude towards reproductive sex. Not really funny.

It has nothing to do with producing an actual child (or time travel, etc). The actions in panels two ("do me") and four (the pun) exist solely for their own purposes. They are the means to their own end.

BTW, the OP forgot to include the title text.

But sadly realistic.
Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

What's wrong with that? Are you some kind of prude or something? What is wrong with a man and woman expressing their love for one another? Do you understand how mating works? Do you understand where babies come from? If it weren't for sex none of us would be here. It isn't a ritual of some sort either. It's not if when you get married the husband ceremoniously places his dick in his wife and a baby while an angel with a trumpet flitters above blowing the traditional ceremonious song of fertility no. People get drunk and screw each other. At parties, at work, during school, at McDonalds, where ever. It is not a thing to be ashamed of! Do not let the conservatives and
J-Hove witnesses convince you otherwise! Sex is a wonderful thing that should be taught early on, in the womb even, as a natural and beautiful thing. We should live as bonobos and use sex as a greeting hello, and a valediction bye. We shall have an orgy before we eat, before we work, before we sleep, and before we have sex. Because only through the God-given glory of orgasm can we truly experience his Infinite Love for us. Fellatio will become our prayers, and cunnilingus will become our confessions. We will as a species become one, under the great religion of Hot Nasty Boning. And yes, we may die out from the STD/Is, from the herpes, AIDS, and gonnorhea. But at least we will go out the way we were meant to. Covered in each other's funk and moaning to God.
Not cool, not funny, not a good criticism.

The product the people in the comic should be working on is a pregnancy test with speech synthesis and recognition (and at least Eliza-level AI). Then you could set it for different modes when you take the test. Reassurance/Guilt/Celebration, etc.

Code: Select all

The even bigger problem: Apache and PHP both have a history of resulting in zombie processes, or behaving erroneously with fork()'d children.

Oh, this might help:
The pcntl_fork() function creates a child process that differs from the parent process only in its PID and PPID. Please see your system's fork(2) man page for specific details as to how fork works on your system.
Return Values

On success, the PID of the child process is returned in the parent's thread of execution, and a 0 is returned in the child's thread of execution. On failure, a -1 will be returned in the parent's context, no child process will be created, and a PHP error is raised.

Code: Select all

<?php

$pid = pcntl_fork();
if ($pid == -1) {
     die('could not fork');
} else if ($pid) {
     // we are the parent
     pcntl_wait($status); //Protect against Zombie children
} else {
     // we are the child
}

?>
