rats! no image...
This is the ultimate betrayal, new comic; you can vsee the alt text, and NO PICTURE!! :x
Very mysterious... possibly a conspiracy theory?

oh well, sure Randall's a busy guy.

AHAHHAAHAHAAHHAAHAAHA!
This is the best strip EVER!!
...Now if only I could see it, that would be great. But it's okay. I'm prepared to give him some latitude.

EDIT: Okay, I can see it now. It's not so funny anymore though, because it doesn't make much sense. The best I can figure is that she went to get a vibrator, didn't like it, tried another store, didn't like theirs, so she tried to make her own and it blew up... or something. Any better theories?

Apparently, the actual comic is an incomplete PSD image instead of PNG.

EDIT: appears to be fixed now.

Weird, worked perfectly for me. Also weird I'm on the first page.

What's google latitude? Is it new, or exclusive to the G1? ('Cause that'd explain why I haven't heard of it.)

I've never heard of Latitude either. But I also hate cell phones, so that might have something to do with it.

Randall seems kind of hung up on female sexuality this week.

Though I strongly suspect he made the conscious choice to use a woman as the main actor in this comic, as he seems fond of countering the implicit lack of women being assertive about their sex lives in popular media.

I'm amazed that it can pinpoint which ward of the hospital she's in... Most of the hospitals around here have 8 or 9 stories, so latitude and longitude would not be enough, you would also have to have elevation.

Also, don't most hospitals make you turn your phone off?

Also, there is an XKCD app for Android (http://www.helloandroid.com/node/691), and an app that implements the Geohashing algorithm (http://www.cyrket.com/package/net.exclaimindustries.geohashdroid).

It's exclusive to the android smartphone os, as far as I know. Latitude is basically a GPS logger to tell friends where you are.

yay, the problem was fixed before I checked the comic :D

Hmm, only ten minutes from home to the burn ward. That sure didn't take very long!
Funny that the alt-text mentions Android, given that the previous comic involved an actual android (and could have also resulted in a trip to the burn ward...)

Comic-related.
Think friction. The regular toys weren't....Um...."Pumping" fast enough maybe? Or spinning fast enough? Now couple that with a power tool...Yea. More spin or more pump or whatever...Maybe. Makes sense in my head...

Latitude-related.
If you look at Google's page for Latitude (http://www.google.com/latitude/intro.html) it not only runs on Android, but also most Blackberries, WinMo, Symbian S60 and soon the iPhone/iPod Touch. You can look at locations online, from your iGoogle homepage.

Just my 2 cents :D

Glad to finally be part of the forum, btw! Love the comic.

I liked it, but I think that it would have been better if it had several people on the list, and their stories interacted in strange ways, and you had to figure it all out.

Hmm... creepy phone app is creepy. Why would anyone want to broadcast their locations from a cellphone at all times? I mean, for general population use.

Creepy phone app is fucking rad, and is exactly the kind of thing I'd download if I had the G1.

All I get for leaving my bluetooth on is weird pictures in Arabic :( (See: the time I was in a late night lecture where my phone got a bluetooth transfer of a bus on fire with arabic writing on the side <_<)

But there is a relationship between Megan's and Robert's actions.
Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.

Kids, let this be a lesson. You play with the kinds of sex toys that require three-phase power, you get burned.

I wondered about that too. Then, I decided it was being more specific than "Hospital" for comic effect, requiring the "suspension of disbelief."

With a generic mention of "Hospital," there would be no reason to infer that the purchase (we don't know if a purchase actually occurred) of sex toys and power tools were related. Power tools usually maim rather than burn (possible exception being sanders).
Did you get the number on that truck?

Longtime lurker here.
I broke my silence to wonder this:
We knew the girl's name was Megan from here.
Is this the first time we find out that the guy's name is Robert?
When do we get to learn Black Hat Guy's name and Beret Guy's name?

Comic related:
I don't understand the long discussion about power tool burns. I got that one immediately.

Obviously, he's learned the habit of turning Latitude off when he's doing something discreetly. Or he doesn't use it at all, because everything he does requires some degree of discretion.
