Or if you live in Kokomo, you hear the real hum. I don't live in Kokomo though, I live in Bloomington.

So, how many of us do you think stay up until midnight every sunday, tuesday, and thursday to catch the comic this early?

Meh. Kinda weak, this time around.

And that ain't a hum. That's tinnitus.

- My desktop has nice, quiet fans, and I turned on the Asus Q-Fan feature in the BIOS, which slows the CPU fan down to the minimum speed necessary.
- My house is on one acre, which seems to also be the site of thousands of crickets.

Even with all the windows closed, the chirping crickets drown out my desktop computer. The quietest room in the house: the windowless hall bathroom.

I wrote a script that has my G1 sound an alarm and open the comic at midnight
XD

On the comic though, it reminds me of the older ones, back when Randal focused more on romance and less on female sexuality.

You caught me on this one, and anyone else hate being the first home and when you walk in the door, there is nothing. No heating or cooling running, just silence, amd that odd high pitched humming. Sometimes it's nice, but others it's just creepy.

10:00 isn't that difficult to stay up for, here.

God, I loathe that high-pitched soundless hum. I recall being annoyed once, as someone had left the television on mute and I could hear the electricity or something. I turned off the T.V. and the sound stopped, only to be replaced by that aggravating hum.

hi glasnt! I missed you the last few threads, I think :(

And, I survived a whole weekend without ANY chat at all. It was an ordeal.

I've also survived days without internet due to being in a spot where not even dial-up existed... >.<

That... NOISE is so annoying!!!

Though, I do find the high-pitched beep on cell-phones (don't know what the official ringtone is called) to be even more so.

I started a while ago but since I'm still just a kid it's risky staying up till midnight 3 times a week. I get elated when i get to start a thread (win the battle that ensues). and Randall, vacate my cranium.

This would be me, except that I would never think about leaving the internet in the first place.

Though, I do find the high-pitched beep on cell-phones (don't know what the official ringtone is called) to be even more so.

My Palm (Tungsten T2), which I got at goodwill for... $15 IIRC, makes that sound whenever it's turned on. Once I was using it and overheard people saying something about it being a cell phone. But yeah, it doesn't really bother me. I guess I'm just used to loud/annoying noises, like the bird squawking loudly 3 feet from me right now, and the "Dr. Beat" that we use in marching band (PING PING PING PING)

I had a fan that sounded like a PC on low speed...

Then it started making this loud GRRRRRNNNGNGNK sound whenever I used it >_>

Anyway, yeah. I don't have a laptop right now, which probably makes it /worse/, since I can't lie down and dink around while letting sleep creep up on me.

I left the guys who wanted it back a surprise though, muahahah. (Actually, I just got overzealous trying to make sure I didn't leave anything like my private key on there and accidentally deleted the OS X system folder... but I had to give it back 10 hours after I did that anyway, so no harm done. To me.)

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it my mind automatically tunes it in. Normally only the bathroom in the middle of the night is quiet enough to hear it.

I can hear CRT TVs being on as well, which is cool. Unfortunately newer technology lacks that feature.

As you age, your hearing changes. Anecdotally, my upper hearing limit has gone from approx. 19khz to about 16khz. That high-pitched whine you hear is the death-song of the innermost hairs of your cochlea. Welcome to mortality.

I guess I'm not addicted then. Last time I went on vacation (in 2006) I went about 26 days without internet.

I don't hear "empty room hum" or whispering. I brought the power-brick for my old 386 laptop, but not the laptop.

In April, my sleep was disturbed by a faulty commercial air-conditioning unit about 400m away. I knew I wasn't going crazy because I was able to record the intermittent, dampened 5Hz noise with some headphones, a bean bag, and my computer running audacity.

You young 'uns may not remember this, but being without the Internet is not the same as being without computers
