title text: This comic is to high school literature as xkcd is to high school science
PS: anyone care explaining it?
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, which is very commonly assigned in high school literature classes.
A young woman named Hester Prynne, has been led from the town prison with her infant daughter in her arms and on the breast of her gown "a rag of scarlet cloth" that "assumed the shape of a letter." It was the uppercase letter "A". The Scarlet Letter "A" represents the act of adultery that she has committed and it is to be a symbol of her sin—a badge of shame—for all to see.
I don't know if the "I have class today" is supposed to refer to something specific, or it's just that he'll have to be around people while he's wearing it.
As for the title text, no, I don't think it's a shot at xkcd. More like a nod or tip of the hat, although I guess it implies that xkcd only refers to high school level science.
