Mildly humorous once again.
If you start an argument over whether "they" "them" and "their" can be used as gender neutral singular pronouns, in this thread, I will do terrible, terrible things to you.

Darn you, Orca. Because you replied to this thread, my thread, which was first, was deleted. Argh. Two days... in two days, I will have you all. Mwehehehe!

I should probably go read the actual comic, eh?

I've always suspected that this advertising style is geared towards 14 year old boys and middle-aged men. The former because internet similes provide them with a frame of reference ("Like Facebook... but with a vagina!"), and the latter because mentioning social networking sites/technology makes them think that it's the way to meet 19 year old girls named Tiffany.

I like git better than svn, but svn is what I have to use for work. And our permissions system has been messing up lately which has lead to no end of grief (not literally. yet).
Um... oh, I was supposed to be talking about lesbians? Well that topic seems to have caused some significant amount of its own grief in the world of Stargate: Universe, which is where I'm heading after I finish posting here...

While I didn't laugh at the actual comic (sorry, Randall, just wasn't that funny to me), I did laugh at the social implications of it. 99% of the people I know who regularly surf the Internet react exactly like that to the ads they see daily (nonchalantly), whereas 99% of the people I know who aren't online at least once in a while have a massive freakout and start screaming "virus!!!" as soon as they see even the slightest ad. Either that, or they actually click the ad, end up getting a virus, but don't care; because some "next door neighbor" of theirs named "Tiffany" talked to them and made them feel special.

I predict that my children/grandchildren, will be so unaffected by the most shocking of ads, that advertising agencies will all implode. I'm already unaffected by TV/print ads that regularly shock my grandparents. They just won't be affected by any of the ads because they're so common (unfortunately, they'll all likely be shocked by "2 girls, 1 cup of chocolate pudding"* before they develop their immunity), so they'll ignore them, never buy the product, and advertising will slowly go the way of the dinosaur**.

*"2 girls, 1 cup" advertising chocolate pudding. The horror... the horror...
**At least I hope so

You know what? If you've never heard of the web-based hosting service for projects that use the Git revision control system known as 'GitHub' don't even bother reading today's strip.

We don't need your kind here.

I appreciate the continued motif of "S&M" implied in the title. Nice wordplay, Randall.

Also, I don't know what GitHub is (don't worry, a search engine search is soon to follow), and I refuse to leave. So, showdown?

Bah. It works if you don't know what it is, either. Because then the reaction is, "What?" Followed by, "Hmm. 'Gith-ub' certainly sounds like a reasonable parody coinage."

The alt-text made me laugh more than the actual comic.
But some days I feel like that, depressed at the sad and low depths people will sink to.

While I hate those ads, I hate ad block more. Do people want to start paying for all those currently free sites?

Yes. Yes I do. I would rather pay (and do pay on several sites) the website owner directly for access to premium content rather than endure advertising that interferes with the design and flow of the site I am visiting.
That is a more sustainable model in the long run.

RANDALL GET OUT OF MY HEAD. Just today I finally got adblock on my system after they upgraded it for the new beta which i got because i lost all my data. But this is one of my first times that Randall has implanted himself in my head.

PS This comic is 50x better at least if you look up github :)

I've already seen git repository services used in a "social" manner: a libertarian committed a story about how he educated his two liberal friends' daughter on tax policy in a manner that was funny and true. Forty people (presumably liberals) forked the story to put words in various characters' mouths in various ways, none of which were funny, fifteen of which were obscene.

So, no, I didn't find the last panel to be funny or insightful.

The title-third panel-alt text combo was, though.

ClitHub will probaby be: "That commit to the romantica branch was a totally inappropriate fork of my tender adolescent coming-out story" or "Your octopus merge of the vampire sex, Heyer-esque Regency forbidden romance, Bildungsroman, Heyer-esque economic policy discussion, and cybererotica HEADs blew my mind."
