Title text: Well, sex is like a velociraptor: despite your movie-fueled lifelong neurotic obsession, unlikely to be found in your house.

Simple but very funny. Good use of the velociraptor reference too.

Like a T. Rex, our love is best when oriented parallel to the ground, rather than in an awkward position that would really be bad for your back, if you think about it.

What do you mean Velociraptors are unlikely to be found in my house? There is ALWAYS a great chance of Velociraptors being in my house. Now to go do my rounds again. I don't think I locked the kitchen window...

Saw the velociraptor a mile away. And the alt text was well played. :D

Wonder why it was late though...

Introspection: Why is it when a comic is late I can't just do something else for a bit? I've got to sit here and refresh a trillion times? Anyone else have this problem?

I love this one! Partly because of the interesting similes, partly because it reminds people that 'brontosaurus' is an obsolete synonym of apatosaurus, and also because I can relate to the latter parts.

I was laughing so hard at the alt text that my chair nearly fell backwards. Great comic. And everyone said the shark had been jumped with 631 but I say it was like New Coke. XKCD classic, baby.

Yes. Well I can browse through other sites for a minute but I can't go to bed until I've seen it D:

What bothers me more (this time) is why it's late. The server clock seems to have hung for a few minutes, the http header reported:

Code: Select all

Content-Length: 8827
Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 03:53:02 GMT
Server: lighttpd/1.4.13

for a few minutes.

When the comic finally did go up:

Code: Select all

Last-Modified: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 04:00:02 GMT

Looking at past comics, it is the same time, today. I'm guessing they ran a script to make all the pages say
The xkcd book is coming out Tuesday,
with events this weekend in the New York and Bay Area.
, and it made the server hang for several min.

davean, what did you do to the server clock?!

the girls should have said:

to which the guy could have said:
you are like the horned toad, always horny, but too busy shooting blood
(i apologize to all women)

to which the girl could have said:

Also, for the "sex is like a velociraptor" a good answer would be:

Not really as big and spectacular as you thought it would be after watching those movies.

Wow. I was hoping for a comedic uptick at the end. That was very sad. Still a good strip, and very much in my head.

"Perfect design" is a slightly odd way to refer to a living creature, don't you think? I always try to avoid that kind of phrasing, since even though educated people understand what is meant, it might encourage misconceptions in some circles.

i know how you feel. im not sure how late the comic was though, because if i still go to xkcd.com or click the 'last' button, it still brings me to Locke and Demosthenes...
i had to type xkcd.com/636 to actually get to this one..wonder if im alone or just stupid >__>

it was worth the wait though, i did laugh a good bit.
now i can sleep.

Edit: it comes up now..guess i just had to wait an hour

Try the Printifier for xkcd. You can now scale the comic between 50 and 150%.

I find these very useful: Common Errors in English Usage (web site) and Eats, Shoots & Leaves (book). You may, too.
