"If you state the obvious, then you're only stating the obvious"
I'm amazed that wasn't caught sooner. How about, "If you re-state the obvious, the obvious has already been stated."

I once tried making a group called "If 300,000 people join this group, then 300,000 people will have clogged their friends' news feeds," but it never took off. I didn't have space to go into the millions place.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=201824738616

By the way, I already updated the wikipedia page on tautology (I didn't know what it meant) and linked this comic to the Pop Culture section.

Does the girl on the far right have a white streak or is it just me?

I also just realized this is the point where xkcd will, in all likely-hood, have passed OotS in main comics by numbers. If you count all the bonus comics in books and the one panel jokes extra on the site, OotS is still ahead by along ways.

I think I just came up with a simple explanation for the economy crisis.

Economy is not doing well because the economy not doing well. And the market is failing because the market is failing. And mix of this two.

Oh wait,.. sorry, it has been done before. It is pretty much the only explanation that news provide anyway.

Long cat is long.

This post contains tautology because it contains tautology.

Yo dawg, I put tautology in your club so you can club while you tautology.

Just a couple things that came into mind immediately after reading this comic.

Yes, I did rearrange this post just so that the lines would be going from shortest to longest.

I too created a Facebook Group, because I too created a Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=487724220593

(Also, because Facebook's search is rubbish! and it doesn't prevent you from creating duplicately named groups either...)

But I like the redundancy of having multiple tautology groups because then they're redundant.

This thread has too much redundant tautology.
And two much redundant tautology this thread has.

NO logical tautology jokes yet? :(

So what are the requirements to join tautology society?
"To be eligible to join the tautology society you must be eligible to join the tautology society. "
or better yet,
"You only can join the tautology society if you are eligible to join the tautology society, and you are only eligible to join the tautology society if you are a member of tautology society"

Paradoxal tautology is Paradoxal.

Noooo, don't make a million of the same facebook group!!!

Redundancy =/= tautology. This is, of course, because tautology =/= redundancy.

Let me see if I can explain. If I were to explain this difference tautologically, I would use tautological reasoning to explain the difference between tautology and redundancy. I might use tautological examples, which would consist of examples that were tautological. I would convince you because you would see the truth in what I was saying and be swayed to agree with my conclusion.

If I were to explain this group redundantly, I would explain this group redundantly. I would use redundant examples such as redundant examples. I would convince you I was right because I would convince you I was right.

@LondubhAWC : Then the group's name is incorrect!!! Oh no!!! The tautology club has failed!

There's no redundancy like superfluous redundancy.
I now occasionally update my rarely-updated blog.

I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

Great comic. I was laughing at "tautology club", and when I got to the end, I was laughing so hard I couldn't read the mouseover...then I read it and I laughed even more....
---------------------------------------------
Rules of Tautology club

1)The first rule of tautology club is the first rule of tautology club

2)The second rule of tautology club is the second rule of tautology club

3)When someone says stop, or goes limp, he is saying stop, or going limp

4)Only two guys equal two guys (2=2)

5)One fight equals one fight (1=1)

6)If you don't have shirt or shoes, then you don't have shirt or shoes

7)The fights go on until it ends

8)If this is your first night at tautology club, this is your first night at tautology club
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I know some of them aren't so good...I personally don't like 4, 5 and 6, but I didn't want to just make something up, I wanted them to be related to their Fight Club equivalent.
I liked 7 because it reminded me to Alice ("Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop”)

@You, sir, name?

No!!! Superfluous redundancy doesn't actually contribute anything! We must not let our great tautology club devolve into mere redundancy by sinking into a pattern of redundancy!

@-.Mateo.-

Those are excellent rules for the tautology club. I too was laughing so hard that I didn't remember to read the mousover text until I later remembered to read the mouseover text.

I suggest we amend the rules as following:

Rules of Tautology club

1)The first rule of tautology club is the *second* rule of the tautology club.

2)The second rule of tautology club is the *first* rule of tautology club.
