As hilarious as this was...

Gil-Galad throwing Sauron out of Lindon refers to the War between the Elves and Sauron. Sauron waged this war after the One Ring was created, in order to gain control of the Three Elvish Rings. Ergo, chronologically, the comic is very much incorrect.

And unfortunately, I have not yet got around to the weeked I have planned where I get to have a marathon of nerdy movies. The Matrix, followed by all three LOTR, and finally the original trilogy. The only one that wouldn't be the first time for me would be A New Hope.

I don't know whether to berate you for not viewing these movies yet, or applaud you for referring to the Star Wars trilogy as the trilogy.

Also, that's going to take you well into the morning hours. I've done all 6 SW episodes, finished around 7am. I cannot fathom being able to stay up that long if you include LotR.

Just to let you know, you won't get most of the reference just by watching the LOTR movies since what Sauron mentions in the comic takes place before the movies begin. Also, reading the LOTR books wouldn't help much, either, for the same reason.

Sidenote: I really hope I won't have to give myself a massive facepalm for forgetting, because I'm pretty sure this is the case.

Sadly, this thread reminded me of that episode, causing me to watch it instead of go to sleep for my classes, which are tomorrow...

As for the comic, Sauron actually ruled the vast majority of Middle Earth. Everything (as far as we know) except for the north-west was under his control, and the north-west consisted of nothing more then a few refugee elves, some ragtag remnants of kings, and a few scattered civilizations.

Alright, it seems like a lot of those in the know are skimping out on explaining what happened.

After the fall of the Big Bad (Morgoth, Sauron's boss), when everyone fled to the south-eastern part of the world of Middle Earth, Gil-Galad established the kingdom of Lindon, as High King of the Noldor (high elves). Galadriel was also a pretty big and powerful figure; she was a great lady of the Noldor, and the last remaining one of the original group of high elves that came back from over the sea. When Sauron's boss fell, he wussied out and pretended to make amends for his crimes, but then he slipped away before judgment to continue with his misdeeds. He put on the form of Annatar, Giver of Gifts, and used the elves' greed for knowledge in crafting and forging to chill out with them and spy on them. Gil-Galad and Galadriel thought he was super shady, though, and Gil-Galad specifically kept him out of Lindon.

After being kept from Lindon, Sauron turned around and went and forged the three great elven rings with the elves in Eregion, who were lead by Celebrimbor.

And uh, Aulë was the one who created and brought the dwarves to life, as well. All Ilúvatar did was accept them as his adopted creation, too.
