0744: "Walkthrough"

Postby Armitando » Mon May 24, 2010 3:50 am UTC

Image

http://xkcd.com/744/

Alt attribute: There's nothing hotter than porn dubbed over with a poorly-mic'd teenager's voice explaining each step in a droning monotone. 'okay, we're almost at the spawn point ... separate the labia, but watch out, there are more inside them ..."

Meh, good but not great.

I lol'd twice, once at the comic, and again at the alt-text.

Dude, you need a link and title-text, as well as your own comment, so you're you know, contributing to the thread.

It's sad that society has such the preoccupation with sexual encounters, individual pleasure, and lack of want of service.

Heh heh. First I thought that it was kind of a lame comic, but then I realized the punchline was actually funny. Alt-text, anyone? I'm reading this on an iPhone.

Sounds like it would be entertaining to watch. What would speed-run sex look like? I'm trying to imagine...

Fair go, at least he got the thing to compile.

And there are people in this world that envy people who can "finish" Mario in under 8 minutes.
Spoiler:
That sounds really wrong out of context.

That was hilarious. Just been playing a game where one of the achievements is a speed run.

"There are more inside"... ahahahaha

In the alt-text, I imagined the teenager's voice as YouTube user NextGenHacker101. I raged.

In itself, the comic is still amusing.

Oh boy, it's funny because it's true. I hate looking for walkthroughs to find the way around some seemingly impenetrable obstacle and instead getting one that gives me some hack. I mean, I guess it's no more cheating than looking up a walkthrough in the first place, but it still feels cheap. And then whenever I play I'll always have this nagging thought that what I'm trying to do could be accomplished a lot easier...

This comic was very funny, especially the alt-text, but it still didn't feel like the classic xkcd I've been missing for a while.
I already have a hate thread. Necromancy > redundancy here, so post there.

Not cool, not funny, not a good comic.

Sex != Video Games1. Saying it is does not automatically burn cheese.

I wonder if it was an unassisted speedrun, or a tool-assisted speedrun...

Aww diddums, does someone not like reading negative criticism? I seriously doubt Randall needs you white knighting for him.

Probably not but the various internet fora have enough of shitheads without this nice place having to suffer for them too. You know criticism isn't a bad thing at all but the vapid complaints above hardly count as that.

I really liked this one, I laughed at both the main comic and the title text. And at least he only found a speed run, imagine if he'd found one that involved sequence breaking
Please note that despite the lovely avatar Sungura gave me, I am not a medical doctor.

Possibly my proudest moment on the fora.

This comic was stupid and not funny. All it was was a terrible pun, and one unnecessary middle panel. If you're going to have an awkward pause, make sure it actually fits. Achewood got it down to a science. You, Randall, are still figuring it out.

Try m.xkcd.com for devices without title text viewing capability. Not sure why they don't advertise this better!

You know what I am sick of? People who say "HI" to each other in every thread in a miserable, desperate attempt to start a meme. But oh, of course I am not allowed to say that, because that would offend people who can't grasp the concept of diversity of opinions and freedom of expression. People complain, deal with it. If you don't like it, go to some other planet, for God's sake.

About the comic, some people are incredibly talented at taking something utterly disgusting and making it hilarious. Randall is definitely not one of those.

Screw you, Randall-- NO, better yet, DON'T screw you, Randall.

Get out of my head Randall!
Or off Wikipedia anyway.

I saw Google's awesome Pac-Man homepage so i checked how long ago Pac-Man came out on its Wiki page.
Then I noticed the image of the Kill screen and went on to read the "Kill screen" article. Then there was a link to "Tool-Assisted Speedrun".
Then I checked XKCD :P

LOL, you know, this is even funnier if you watch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mating_Habits_of_the_Earthbound_Human (sorry if my linking sucks)

The whole movie is done as if an alien was doing a documentary about human sex.

probably theres a part 2 he just skipped it.

A great clash, but not enough to merit a lot of negative criticisms. Why is there a soup of negating opinions here?

Honestly, the comic does only appeal to specific people. If you're not much of a gamer, if you don't understand what's so great about beating Super Mario Bros. in five minutes, or about shaving three frames off of Falco's approach... you won't get this comic. Simple as that.

I like the comic for its parody of the awful "Let's Plays" and video "walkthroughs" that people keep posting on YouTube just because they can. For the guide-craving consumer, GameFAQs is by far the best way (other than hunting down the top fansite of each game, if it exists) to get decent guides. The good guides are marked by stars now. No such labelling system exists on YouTube, sadly.

I'm with Story. I don't understand the hate for this comic, I think it was one of the few recent ones I've really laughed at. Takes everyday stuff and mixes it with the right amount of nerd. Perfect.
