I live in noncompliance with all no-punch-back rules. Play at your own risk!

Mini Coopers... why does it always have to be the mini coopers.... Don't answer that. Please don't answer that.

In the tradition of ...and you will know us by the trail of dead I would name a band a sentence fragment, but I would choose one that is much more awkward to say. That way people would be hesitant to mention the band in conversation and our word of mouth advertising would suffer. Consequently, we would have fewer shows booked, less responsibility and more time to pursue alcoholism and drug addiction.

Something like
first left then take a right on Oak street and it will be the house with a blue car in the driveway
or
mainly in the frontal lobe, but also the cerebral cortex received slight damage from the impact
or
without which the male of the species is unable to engage in coitus

As soon as I learn to play an instrument I am set.

People'd try to pronounce that, and in the time it took them to think about it, they'd realize that they actually didn't like the music all that much.

Man, I feel old now. I remember playing that game as a kid with VW beetles (otherwise known as "punch buggies"). That made so much more sense.

Or rather, it did back then. In retrospect, calling the VWs punch buggies makes no more sense than calling Minis punch buggies. Oh well.

Going back to OT...

What's worse is most people probably left the concert early to go listen to real live hedgeclippers.

Forgotten? I'm the only one in my immediate family that doesn't play it insesantly.

I seem not to get something, I take "no punch back" as an invitation not as a rule. Never got that one, and I punch faster.

Going back to the original topic, I used to play a game where you'd pick two random nouns and put them together to come up with odd band names (I'm weird, okay). I think the best was Toilet Candy.

The Strokes
The Offspring
Staind
Butthole Surfers (I see what they mean, but it sounds like some 4th-grader insult)
Mark Anthony
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Garbage

*Band name does not influence my opinion of said bands' music.

Ketchup Weasels.

Speaking of which, there's a list somewhere around somewhere that my family made of 100 good things to do with a bucket of weasels, or something. I am pretty sure my favorite was always filling them up with helium and floating them over the White House.

That was me, somewhere around age 10. I still have it on this drive somewhere. Remind me to dig it up; I'll post it here :)

[awesome] I was in a band called Lion Steak. We starved a dozen cats for a week and then released them amidst the audience. Also, I think that there was a guy on fire at one point. [/awesome]

What are you crazy people talking about? I've heard it as "Slug Bug" all my life...

And, I think The Hedgetrimmers would be a pretty awesome band name.

Using the Dave Barry method of band names, how about "Refridgerator Mitten?"

I joked with a friend about starting a band called By The Same Name.

Then our albums will be, in order:
1. By The Same Name (featuring the single By The Same Name)
2. Their Self-Titled Debut Album
3. Title Track

If only I had any musical ability.

I was debating whether to call my Guitar Hero band By The Same Name or Your Mom. As in "Your Mom puts on great show in front of 2500 screaming fans"

I think there was a band called Da Vinci's Notebook that wrote a song called "Title of Song." It was included in this list somewhere of formulaic versions of things.

Yes, you're right. It's such a great song!

I found the lyrics here, but you have to imagine them being sung in the typical late-nineties-boy-band-slow-song style.
Poets say science takes away from the beauty of the stars — mere globs of gas atoms. Nothing is 'mere'. I too can see the stars on a desert night, and feel them. But do I see less or more?

Excellent!
I, on the other hand, have considered an album title of "We Are Speaking Using Only Album Titles" (or sum' other spin on that) with the tracks named in a similar fash'on.
—OR—
Changing the band's name between each album and naming each album after the previous band name.
(So "P" by T, "T" by K, "K" by Q etc.)

I still have to go with Insane Logic of Sentient Machine. That would be awesome band name. Sadly I doubt I could make a band with a saxophone, a cello and a flute, with me as the lead singer. Allso, a large amount of punk bands seem to have gotten their name from a list of medical conditions.

There's this musician who goes by the alias "nobody," and it's one of the most inconvenient names ever, especially in conversation.

"hi, can you help me find an album?"
"oh, sure, who is it by?"
"nobody"
"..."

there's also a band called "!!!"

I haven't yet figured out how to pronounce the band name because it's pretty much impossible to google it.

Oh, what am I saying... that would be an AWESOME band name.

Actual band names:
Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis
Cockdeath

Quote from a review on Cockdeath:
Did I mention that the band name is fucking Cockdeath? What the hell, guys? I'll lay it down for you like this: If your band is called Cockdeath, I have no interest in your music. Period. You could record some of the most killer tunes ever, but unless you're actually really fucking hilarious, you throw the name Cockdeath on there and I'll want nothing to do with it. That shit's just plain silly.

"Chk chk chk" is how I've heard it pronounced most often, and that'd probably get you a response if you said it in a halfway decent record store. That, or "the exclamation mark band".

In my hometown there's a band named "That One Guy". The lead singer owns a bar called "That One Place". So conversations are often as follows:

"Hey, i'm going to that one place"
"what one place?"
"you know, that one place" <-- here, the person is just ****ing with the other one
"WHICH PLACE!?"
"THAT ONE PLACE!"
"OOOOHHHH.... hehe"

and often That One Guy plays at That One Place.
