Really Nice! And in the bit that shows the relative sizes of Email and SMS --- I don't think it caters for most of Email being spam if it did then email would be a huge part of the Internet and a huge part of Email would be spam.

If each contiguous landmass is supposed to represent a specific site/service/game/etc., then why is the biggest landmass on MMO Isle simply labeled "MMO Isle"? Shouldn't it be labeled with the name of the biggest actual MMO game?

A bit surprised that the River Grind isn't *much* larger and runs through much of the entire MMO island (Hell, it should be a lake).

Overall, great work - will look to purchase a copy or two of this poster (one for home, one for the lab).

QQ is in China. Notice the "Great Firewall".

Youtube is on the island of Sulawesi? It looks like Youtube is its own island from here.

Great comic! Especially great that Whirlpool forums (Australian) got on there - I posted it over there so they can enjoy it.
Though... wouldn't it be a whirlpool in the Forums region?

This is just excellent work RM

Kinda annoying to read everyone posting errors. There's going to be some things that some people don't agree with!

Saying that, have I missed X-Box live?

I love it!
Rather surprised though that there are two sizable Dutch fora in the Forum archipelago (FOK.nl and bokt.nl, the last one was a really big surprise.. I mean, it's mainly about horses as far as I can see). Anyway nice to see we're represented on the official map of the internet, but I would have expected hyves.nl to be near the regional bay as well, especially since tuenti (spanish) is there.

The fact that all this is such a small portion of the internet makes me feel at the same time very small, but very significant.

I thought stumbleupon would be bigger http://techcrunch.com/2010/05/18/stumbleupon-10-million/

Also is it just me or does MMO ISLE look suspiciously like a freshly cooked chicken from runescape?

So Randall's latest comics have been all exceptionally awful because he spent his whole time working on this, right?

It wasn't worth it.

When I add the poster pack to my cart it's $15 instead of the $20 that's on the dropdown. Is this correct?

Random thoughts:
surprised Youtube isn't bigger. Although I suppose this is for communities, not actual hits.

Reddit has overtaken digg! Which was predictable since DiggV4 was such a disaster.

Someone mentioned that realistically Facebook would be 90% of the internet. That person: look at that little insert thing. Not counting email, Facebook appears to fill up 80% of the Internet.

I'm surprised email is that big, honestly. I never go on email, but I'm constantly online.
U
Either IRC and Usenet shrunk a lot, or Randall actually tried to be accurate this time. I think it's the second one. I would like to know which irc network is which. Also, how exactly he judged the size of each community. How can you measure the size of IRC with that of Myspace, for example?

I knew 2channel is big, but I am surprised that it's bigger than 4chan. Even though it's the biggest forum ever.

Nice Grass Mud Horse reference, over by China. That's one of their anti-censorship memes.
In the forums section, there's a really small island between Something Awful and JLA forums. It's probably the smallest island on the map, but it's really hard to tell what it is. Anyone have any ideas?

eve online was created by CCP, not CDC. CDC is just leases eve because of laws in china. eve should also be closer to the sea of lag, as we have lots of lag.

OK, so it's safe to assume that this is all actually based on data, right? So the sizes are at least someone accurate?

I can't believe that FarmVille is bigger than YouTube. Really? For Realz? God that just blows my mind. I can haz sadness for teh wurld.

I found the end boss of the internet. Wonder if he's hard.

Also I was a bit surprised how small adult friend finder was. I thought the internet was for porn!? (or sex in this case I guess)

5) Needs to be available in a high resolution form on line (along with many other poster-like strips.) Are they? If so, I can't find them.

Y'know the real problem with alledgedly cool or funny misspelling? It screws up the letter point values in ScabbleTM. Anyone looking at the present state of written discourse would have to ask "Wie in thu werld iz 'Z' wurth 10 poince?"

Well, I am in awe of this accomplishment, and devoted a good amount of time to enjoying it today.

One unimportant complaint? I think the "tunnel to Habbo" joke needs a payoff in the actual Habbo area. :-)

I love this map!

But it is missing Browser Games. Many millions play Tribal Wars, KingsAge, Ikarium, Grepolis and even Evony.

I love all the little details. City of Heroes in MMO Isle. OK Go Bay in YouTube. A little mark for "Comfused Android Users" in Google Buzz. (I love Android, but I'm not going to touch Buzz with a 10-foot poll.) The HUGE crater that was the former site of CraigList's Adult Services. Steam being everywhere. (SteamPowered forums in the Forums islands, and the Mountains of Steam in MMO Isle.) The Facebook Privacy Controls being surrounded by a lava pool. Although the MySpace bands being on Corporate Bay seems a little odd...

Right in the middle of the bay of lag just out of sight of the coast of the isle of mmo's. Sadly, right where it should be. Another interesting idea destroyed by poor execution. I wonder if it will make it to the next iteration of this map????

I was about to post to mention that larger problem with the "forums" section. Randall must not have talked to any of the mommyblogger community to get a feel for how active all the women oriented sites are (knot/nest/bump forums, babycentercommunity, etc). There's a ton of them and they often move so quickly it's hard to keep up. It was surprising to me how active those communities are (looking around at some of them now that I got knocked up).
