* Another w‌as mentioned here viewtopic.php?p=2556893#p2556893 (in addition to adding #flat you have to reload the page).
* A third is to copy and paste the URL o‌f the picture that you see below every comic.

Have you got three monitors? Bring up the comic as far to the left as you can. Now move the cursor as far to the right as y'all's dual monitor setup allows. You can make today's image turn enough to read the words on the sitting character's brainbox monitor! Yet another hidden joke, thanks Mewtwo!

You got me. I only have 1 monitor, so I couldn't rotate it far enough, but I checked the page media and saw there actually wasn't any image for text on the monitor :P

Why is it sǫ stuttery/why dǫes it use up sǫ much CPU pǫwer? Lǫǫking at my system mǫnitǫr t[*]here's a HUGE spike whenever I view the 3D comic.

This wǫuld be cǫǫl if it didn't run sǫ slǫw (my cǫmputer's fast, sǫ that's nǫt the prǫblem).

Depends on your browser. Running buttery smooth in IE9. It was unusably slow in FF3.6 for me; FF4 might be better.

I see someone already found my re-do of http://www.xkcd.com/31. For those still hunting, I re-did the rest of the barrel series (1, 11, 22, 25) earlier today, and am working on a couple others on and off today.

For those who want to make some and test them, I put together a modified test page that you can use to edit the JSON and test your image sets. You can just download it, or read about it on my blog post.

e d i t: Apparently "t e s t" comes out POWERSLIDE. Just so ya know.

This 3D bizzo is nasty. It makes 'headache' funny, but the others, it just makes hard to read. I was slowly working my way through every xkcd comic, but it's really unpleasant, now. I'll check in from time to time to see whether it's been switched off, but until then, goodbye.

In case you didn't see it: I made a slightly altered page to test mine, see my post above. The JSON is right in the HTML, so you can edit it in the HTML file and then copy/paste it into comic.json. It'll work fine if you leave it broken up across multiple lines in the Javascript in the header, so it's easy to copy/paste back and forth for testing. My copy also adds an option to specify a comic number, so you can put the images in a folder by comic number and switch between them.

Had not noticed this yet, but when you press next on the current comic the typical teapot model randomly appears on your screen. Its possible that this has always been possible, but I just noticed it.

You can manually add the teapot flag to any comic and its moves with the comic.

Wow, I was hoping someone would do Alternative Energy...yours is absolutely gorgeous! Well done! And Wisdom Teeth looks fantastic too. This is great. I was also glad to see that someone got around to What If and the first Red Spiders too - I had my eye on both of them, but had only started the latter. Landscape is new too, and is interesting, with the overlaid graph lines and all.

I also finished up a new one - finishing up my Ferret/Barrel saga by adding #20 - the original Ferret comic. It was kind of giant, and I had to sketch out all the parts to get them set up right, but I think it turned out all right. Now to get to real work...

Realizing that this is an April fools thing, my first reaction was, "I just got suckered into doing a comic conversion". That being said, I am wondering if work will continue in producing nice 3D conversions of the comics because it is pretty neat. To that end, I believe it would be neat if there was a "3D version" link somewhere on the main site for those not aware of the need to add the "3D." prefix to the comic url.

I like the Alternative Energy Revolution! It got a lot more unnerving :)
Wisdom Tooth is very nicely done, too.

Red Spiders! Red Spiders Woot! So cool :)

No, it was just JavaScript and positioning transparent PNG images; and when You move the mouse, the viewpoint changes, so it created a really stunning effect , considered how easy methods were used.

All comics were done 3d by automatic program, but many users posted their own versions. Check out my links from few posts back to see it Yourself.

Would it be wrong of me to humbly request a comic about the content of the "Building Envelopes" course areas on this page for Georgia Tech?:

It is practically begging to be turned into one big sexual innuendo xkcd comic.

Yeah, maybe reciting this list slowly with a deep, sultry voice puts something there that really isn't.

Except for moisture and enclosure design. That, I couldn't say with a straight face even if I tried. [/offtopic]

880: Headache (3D)

Postby ck.asdf » Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:39 am UTC

If you visit the homepage of xkcd, then place "3d." at the beginning of the URL, be amazed!

Title text: I'm only willing to visit placid lakes, salt flats, and painting exhibits until the world's 3D technology improves.

3D definitely needs to improve before it's ready for everyone to accept it, which is why I live in a 2.5D world.

Also ... new comic that is currently kind of hiding itself? I discovered this while looking for another comic, and discovered 3D.

PS: Since I'm new on the fora, it won't allow me to use the img tag. >_<
