I visited Pripyat last year. It's a spooky place, but also cool to visit in a geeky way.

$0 / 10(?)br Presidential compound in scenic Tripoli, servants, all amenities. Well defended, but some lingering bomb damage. Evict the current tenant and it's yours! (Until we decide you're a tyrant too, and find someone to evict you in turn.)

Ah, a House of Leaves reference. One day, I will man up enough and read that book, because it sounds fascinating. I've heard it gives people nightmares, though... and, when it comes down to it, I'm a little girl who's afraid of nightmares. Boo.
I have never visited Craigslist, and I hope I never have to. It just sounds like an awful place.

I think the 2 bedrooms, one inside the other is referring to the Fukushima nuclear reactor, could be wrong.

I decided making an account was better than yelling at my monitor. If there is a reactor reference, BR could stand for Breeder Reactor, instead of bedroom.

The internet is stalking me :?

This is strangly appropriate cause I am house hunting right now, and have spent a lot of time browsing ads. (not on craigslist though, mainly kijiji. Craigslist isn't used so much here). Is it sad that a couple of these I would actually want to see for the sake of seeing? (and others vaguely reminded me of ads I have looked at?) And also none of them fit what I need in my price range even if they weren't bizzare (aside from maybe that 5br with rooftop garden...). But ya. A very fitting comic...

Those images are incredible. The ones that I found especially eerie were those from the school (with overturned desks and everything), the bumper cars, and the hotel furniture.

I thought that might've been a reference to a hypercube.

The answer to the strobe light one is of course to bring in your own strobe light to place in the same location and to flash on exactly when the other is dark. There still might be some minor flicker but at least it's livable.

I have a small suspicion the horror movie one is an obscure reference to the classic horror FMV game "The 7th Guest"/"The 11th Hour"

+Tub full of blood (although that is certainly not unique to this genre)
+Games play themselves (Not located in closets, but half of the puzzles were games playing themselves)
~2 Baths (I think this is correct... but its been a while)
~Pets (I don't recall if/how long lived animals were in this game
-3 Beds (Almost positive this is low, probably the best evidence against my theory)

Could still be "Generic Horror Reference" but that solution is unsatisfying.

haha, awesome.

I've found all my living arrangements through Craigslist. But I don't generally read the posted ads, I just post a "looking for room to rent" ad and get a bunch of responses. It's worked thrice so far! Of course I just rent a bedroom in a house, though. Far cheaper than getting my own place.

I'm missing the reference behind the submarine (leak+zombies?), what the klein thingy would look like and why it has "sort of" running water and intense heat bursts, and what "no floor" entails. No artificial floor or nothing between you and the centre of the earth?

Could the Klein one be in reference to M C Escher? The waterwheel painting has water that sort of runs, and the stairs are confusing

Can't think of intense heat bursts however

I think the "Square House, Door at Front" ones are just supposed to be ones that give the least helpful information... also that are reposted multiple times.

The Death star one couldn't help but remind me of the classified ad found in Marathon:

I was thinking that too as soon as I read the part with the bathtub and the self playing board games. However, I looked at a map of both games, and they only seem to have 1 bathroom, but 5 bedrooms, for each of the original guests.

But I'm wondering if it could be Phantasmagoria?

I didn't get any of the references (other than the Death Star, and Pripyat after I looked it up), but I still found this so funny in a surrealistic way that I laughed so hard that it hurt each of the four times that I read through it.

hm, a true "GOOMHR" moment. I've been searching for a new place about 3 weeks now, and have one week left, and so far I've come up dry.

2 odd observations
One bad part is when they post pictures of when the building was first CONSTRUCTED, and not of the current conditions.
2nd random rant: I wonder if some of the people taking the pictures would be great hollywood/media/advertisement photographers; the way some pics are taken the room(s) look 3x the size, when you get there you get a scale model of the house you saw on craigslist, and they're taken off a cheap cell phone camera looking grainy, but huge :/

For some random reason, I've been playing some somewhat creepy old point and click/hidden item adventure games lately, and those pictures would be an EXCELLENT backdrop for a creepy game.

Any chance the short intense heat bursts are in a prototype fusion reactor? The plasma fuel may be contained in a magnetic bottle, but it's a torus, not a Klein bottle...?

This comic made me laugh until I cried.
Each line was funnier than the one before.
There were clusters! So funny.
The last line floored me.

So, funny. This is a funny person.

There are so many thing that fit one inside the other. It is so funny.

Nesting boxes and equations that have other equations that are bigger inside of them. So much stuff.
This is a big universe and we have so much stuff. Where will we put it all?

This Universe is still unpacking. I think that this is the funniest comic, ever.

Could the first one be a reference to Dwarf Fortress?

Also the submarine one sounds like a reference to "The Hunt for Red October". The "extreme running water" referring to the Caterpillar Drive and the "new wiring" referring to the fact that sub was a prototype.

But a hypercube would have 8 cubes for 'sides'. Even allocating one for a bathroom and one for kitchen/dining you still have at least 4 more.

The "Free heat in short, intense bursts." reminds me of one of the current theories on time travel, that your 'gate' would cause an imbalance of heat and light between the past and the future that would cascade until the energy flux overwhelmed the structure. I think the flow was past to future, but I honestly don't remember...

Phantasmagoria didn't really have any board games in it...the two bathrooms is right, there were two (The one with the knight puzzle that infuriated me so damn much in the first game, and the one where I think Edward died), and I'm not sure every guest had a bedroom, though five sounds like it might be the right number. This doesn't sound like a generic reference, that's the thing. It sounds like it could be an adventure game.

Also, when I figured out what was going on with the comic, I was really hoping for a Dionaea House reference. Was I alone in this?

A 3D projection of a 4D wireframe could look like a cube within a cube though. But then again you could also end up with some messed up inbetween state where the two cubes seem to intercept.

I want a house like that.

129bed, steps to riverfront, with high-grade security system, exquisitely carved stone floors, very large front yard with exotic wildlife but minor lava damage due to previous tenants

Given the theme of extradimensional maths and strange cycles folding in on themselves, I assume that short intense bursts of heat are produced as a byproduct of the cyclic big bang theory...
