alt text: If you've never had sex, this is what it feels like. Complete with the brief feeling of satisfaction, followed by ennui, followed by getting bored and trying to make it happen again.

As it seems, I'm not allowed to post links yet! http://xkcd.com/888/

I knew there had to be some counterpart to that hell.

Just hell by another name. That's made pretty clear by the alt text too IMO.

Don't they play other games in the afterlife? Stuck playing tetris forever- sounds like not heaven to me.

Programming your own games gives you this. I remember staying up all night with a friend trying to beat a fighting game which I had made, and could have made myself win at any time.

I guess that's how God feels?

Just wait for someone to make an actual game out of this like they did with the Hell comic.

Randall showed this at a lecture at Princeton last week, glad to see it went up on the site!
Also, he's as awesome in person as he is online.

It is my firm conviction that this was Randall's sole motivation for making this strip.

Only in that context is it heaven.

Any other time, tis hell.

I wonder if the very long block in the "next piece" window is 10 blocks long, so you can just place it on its side and get a line instantly...

That sounds a lot like 1D Tetris...

Code: Select all

enum ಠ_ಠ {°□°╰=1, °Д°╰, ಠ益ಠ╰};
void ┻━┻︵╰(ಠ_ಠ ⚠) {exit((int)⚠);}

HEY GLASNT

I am in a talk where I am totally lost. Everything is going over my head.

Also, isn't part of the fun of games the slight challenge? A game that's too easy is boring. I guess this game would be like normal tetris until you get yourself into a slightly tight spot, and then BAM: perfect piece?

Well, I understand the thought, but I'm stuck playing Tetris, it's still hell. I do not like Tetris at all. Give me any other puzzle game ever, just not Tetris.

GOOMHR! :)

Everyone is playing Tetris and random songs (really loud) during my IT class... Really irritating when I'm trying to listen to Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 quietly while doing my work, like I'm supposed to.

Hence the alt text, yeah? ;) Not to mention the shape of the superpiece (well, except for the smaller downwards protrusion on the right, unless this is an alternate universe where testicles get inserted too).

Am I the only one whose noticed and is concerned by how Randall's handwriting has deteriorated? Its been getting steadily worse for quite some time now.

Take today's strip and compare it to these (in this order) and you'll see what I mean.

More hellish than Hell. Impossible things may be fun to attempt, and I can define my own 'partial sucess' - such as how long I last. Having everything line up in a condescendingly cheaty way is worse.

I love tetris and that would probably be worth some awesomeness. To everyone who hates tetris, I am sure heaven has a pac-man where just as your about to be eaten by a ghost again a power dot pops in front of you, and in galaga your every shot hits in the bonus rounds and you always get your ship back when it is abducted, and finally the tilt detector is broken in all the pinball machines :). Heaven is just like that.

Also @ Smoothblade. Star Port GE is awesome. Nothing like pissing off everyone till you have a 400k bounty on your head (course that meant I had to hide on gas giants with mines and turrets for a month till I was finally killed, but still awesome).

my mother died while playing tetris, and I don't even know if she went to heaven or hell. Not funny, not a good comic.

Anyone figured out how to cheat on http://www.tetris1d.org/tetris.php ? I tried score=1000000; in Chrome's Dev Console, and I get "No cheating!". I've been struggling with it for a while. Anyone know how I can directly change the code so that all the 500s are replaced with 10s? That should speed things up a lot.

Tetris is neither heaven nor hell.

Tetris is life.

You play, and you can do well or poorly, but you can never win; the best you can ever do is not have lost yet, and the longer you manage to hold on, the more crap it throws at you faster and faster, and the harder it gets to play it well and keep on not losing just yet...

Even if this happened to me, I would still manage to screw it up somehow. I suck at Tetris D;

And on that note: has anyone ever played first-person Tetris? IT WILL MESS WITH YOUR MIND!

I like them too. I like almost all of Randall's strips and have recommended this comic to many people. My point is that his HANDWRITING has deteriorated. It looks like he can't make his hands stop shaking.

Take that in conjunction with the "family medical problem" and I begin to wonder if RANDALL is the one who is sick.
