Swift ninja skills right there. That sounds like a sociopath's mind, I don't care about you, but you fascinate me.

What, really? That's not normal? Crap.
All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.

It's obviously the updated version of the machine Donald Sutherland builds in the video to Kate Bush's cloudbusting.

Huh? Where does it say "I don't care about you"? There's a huge gaping chasm between "I don't care about you" and "you're not the center of my universe". I read it as saying he's not unhealthily obsessed, but captivated. If that's sociopathic I guess I'm a sociopath; I don't think I've ever used the original versions of the first four phrases without putting on a silly twee voice first. I love my boyfriend but if he said I should live for his smile I would laugh, and a good thing too because he'd be telling a joke. :roll:

I thought it was a nice comic, and then I thought of what it would be like with Black Hat Guy and his girlfriend... and then I used Paint to put a hat on the guy and give the girl slightly longer hair...

Are the balloons a reference to “Garry's Mod”? You know, because of the “building something from arbitrary objects” theme…

Sociopath? How? Sounds to me like pretty much every relationship I've had. A very fascinating addition to my life, rather than a replacement for it.

Think of it more as having a more realistic perspective on things than not caring.

Sounds like Shakespeare's Sonnet 130.

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Came to post that Sonnet as well. Exactly what I was thinking. Honest adoration without the need for false hyperbole.

Strange that I see "Prairie" still at http://xkcd.com/. I had to use http://xkcd.com/968/ explicitly...

Anyway, are not "you are the light of my life", "making you happy is my greatest dream", etc. quotes from songs?

Sometimes the previous comic was cached. Just hit the [< Prev] then [ >| ] buttons and you should be fine.

Cut off all the monologue in the first two panels, and the comic becomes pretty good.

Yeah. And having to be "the one" to post first is juvenile and petty... and THEN to post that you came "so close" to posting first but you "timed out, arrrrg!"... I have to wonder about the average age of posters in this forum.

I'm not all too familiar with songs but I know the alt-text is referencing the Beatles song.

What is the actual comic referencing?

This comic makes me feel awkward because it plays close to home for me, even though my girl definitely plays the trope straight. I can only imagine what she'd do with everything o.o;;

So she's built a coal-powered armored industrial hybrid crane-steamroller planet rover with a mounted gun on it. And whatever that thing is between the exhaust and the crane mount. My guess is it's for fighting aliens.

But two panels of silence and then a panel with two dialogue boxes seems a little jarring for some reason. Then again, I see your point, not all the dialogue is necessary... there's no need for nameless-male-character-of-the-day to declare whether or not he has a romantic interest in nameless-female-character-of-the-day.
This comic could have been slightly better, but I'm not sure how to do that. Still, I'd say it's solid.

Admitting vulnerability is intrinsic to sharing yourself fully with someone else.

At the risk of making to too much of an A Softer World rip-off, maybe move the "I want to give you everything" line to the first or second panel. It would be a heck of an improvement.

Also,

Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

Every since I read the sonnets in high school this has been my favorite sonnet. I oft quote the line,'my mistress, when walks, treads on the ground'. I think the last lines might be the most beautiful every written. I love her not because other love her, not because they will look at her and wonder how great I must be to be with such a women, but simply because she is a person who I love.

People ger caught up in this love thing, needing someone, wanting to be validated, needed a practical partner, while missing the adventure that can come with just being with a fascinating person, someone who, when given the opportunity, will make one's life wonderful in unexpected and joyous ways.

The other thing are some relationships are necessarily brief. I have come to accept that this is ok what can be learned is limited, as opposed to more enduring relationships where the learning curve and processing time is more steep.

I'm 'meh' about that since by time I come to read the topic the mess is normally gone and I'm not the one who has to clean it up. I do enjoy reading what the first poster has to say about the comic though since he/she has to strike the balance between posting something interesting about the topic and taking so long to write something that they get ninja'd to it by someone else which makes it interesting to see what they come out with.

IMHO people who play the post-first game but post without having their own thoughts in it are basicly cheating. They are cheating the rest of the players but posting in a fashion that gives them an unfair advantage, they are cheating the forum by not sticking to the rules but worst of all they are cheating me of the extra joy I get from reading the first comment in the first post.
