0997: "Wait Wait"

Mouseover text: "You can't stab Karl Kassel. He sounds all slow and stentorian, but he moves like a snake."

Peter Sagal is actually just a piece of meat, as it turns out.

I've heard that those NPR tote bags are as hot as dime bags on the pledge-drive-premiums underworld black market.

That's Carl Kasell. Karl Kassel was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the Alaska House of Representatives who lost in a recount by four votes, and Karl Kassell isn't anyone notable.

Dang ol' public radio. I never got my tote bag!

Also as much as I want to criticize Randall for constantly referencing Internet memes, I actually laughed out loud at the "Wait Wait Don't Me" one. And nothing else.

Think of an American version of the News Quiz, only without the funny. Sagal is the host.

A joke I came up with a few years ago. It's only funny if you've spent too much time reading javadocs.

Q: What's the most popular program on java.lang.Object Public Radio?

Unfortunately, as a public radio listener, I have nothing to defend myself with but a framed picture of Garrison Keillor and some weeks old New Yorker magazines.

Wouldn't dream of it. Well, if I listened to it for a few minutes, I might, because I'd be fast asleep.

(I kid, I kid... it's tedious, but it makes a nice change of pace from this fast-paced and exciting world)

That last panel would have been more funny if This American Life was an NPR show. Its not, its from PRI. Its a common mistake though, I think Stephen Colbert made that mistake when he interviewed Ira Glass... or was that Jon Stewart.

I really enjoyed this comic! I like most all of NPR's non-political shows. And on that note, is NPR becoming more and more biased, or am I just noticing it?

EDIT: And props for the OP for following the guidelines and actually posting a comment.

Honestly, which news sources aren't biased?

An acquaintance of mine once said this about NPR's 'bias': "Reporting is a liberal activity. If you're reporting on what people are doing and what it means to individuals, you're taking an interest in individual welfare, which is a liberal activity. The bias is not intentional; it's the nature of reporting that isn't attempting to avoid—this is just my opinion—it is the act of reporting when you're not trying to discount the impact on an individual. So when I hear things like, you know, NPR has a liberal bias and they never represent a right-wing viewpoint, I think, 'Gosh, you know, I think I've heard lots of right wing commentators and politicos'. But, yeah, you know, if there is a social injustice in the world—I think we both understand that there is, and there's only one network that's reporting on it, I think I'm going to give a pass on the bias issue because until everyone else is reporting on social injustice, I'm going to say everyone else is biased in the wrong way and not necessarily to the right, but towards feeding us candy. So, to me, NPR is good nutritional listening."

Wait Wait itself actually does headlines like these from time to time, although they center around the news stories rather than Carl....

It’s based on a meme where somebody says “I accidentally the whole thing” or a variation, leaving out the verb and making people wonder. Sometimes they imply that the missing verb is sexual.

I've just registered to point out the tiny quote from a character in Terry Pratchett's Discworld in article 4C. I always like coming across evidence that one of the people I like and follow is familiar with the works of another.

I won't click the link. I would like someone to explain it to me. Someone will care enough to tell me. Just reading a Wikipedia article isn't going to give me the flavour of WHY Randall has done a comic about them. Facts are easy, but it doesn't explain who a person is. That is something that is imbued with feeling and opinion. This is exactly what a forum is good for.
