Wow, the style here seems a lot like some of the older comics. I don't really like the joke either, but the large comic and nice backgrounds captured my attention.

This reminds me of a story I was told by some Australian Air Force personel, about how easy it was to sell koalas to (drunk) visiting US military personel, fun for everybody observing, not so much fun for the goose who discovered koalas have big claws and grumpy attitudes. might not be true, but a funny story none the less.

I wonder what xkcdsucks' response to this comic will be. They'll probably touch on how the art style is reminiscent of Randall's old art style to create a sense of nostalgia in order to cover up what would have been an otherwise boring and forgettable comic. The joke is one of those "LOL, I just had a random idea" jokes that was probably only funny when Randall first said it to himself. Etc etc etc.

Unfortunately, the Artist was later arrested after a flock of gulls from a beach located in a different state flew in to partake of the bread.

In practise you'd end up with a bunch of dismembered tourists. Gulls aren't known for being cuddly.

There's something really beautiful about this comic. I don't think beret guy is actually trying to sell gulls here, it's more a completely random and spontaneous piece of art for people walking past.

This wasn't a 'Gee Willikers HILARIOUS' comic, nor was it intended to be. It's just really clever and well done. There was an honest smile on my face when I saw it, and that doesn't happen often.

Also, I think he just felt like showing he can actually draw. Well done on the beach, I like the detail in the waves.

My thoughts exactly...this is the kind of thing that I see, smile broadly, and just plain appreciate. I really love comics like this...

I think it's even a bit self-referential: no big idea, but great execution, which holds true for the comic as well as the guy's business plan (I think he even realizes his idea is not really a hit, scratching his head in the last panel).

I don't really get the elevator joke, except that it stresses he doesn't know much about business.

As someone who does a lot of work with our local Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Centers, can I tell you how much I loathe the phrase, "elevator pitch"? So I adored the title text this morning. Almost did a spit take with my tea onto my laptop.

This is wholeheartedly wrong, I don't know how many of you have firsthand experience with seagulls but if you throw food -even one moldy french fry- 50 to a 100 will show up and they will fight each other (to the death) over every molecule of it before flying off. It is possible that the seagulls ate untill they were full and can't fly from weight but I have never seen a seagull that has "eaten enough".

I hate seagulls, they took my sandwich.

I didn't find the joke all too funny, but the art was great. I can't believe I actually miss the colorless comics. Initially I thought it was great when Randall started consistently adding a little color.
