Now UNIxkcd dipslays 1037: UMWELT image is the "Reviews" comic but has the Umwelt alt-text.

Seems unlikely that he'd even be reading this topic, let alone updating the images based on what's seen here. Of course, I could be wrong.

It was mentioned that a comic did change, and the thought was raised. :P
I think Randall must be reading this thread, because the Oklahoma earthquake comic just changed to a tornado. Awesome!

So whatever, it could happen.

It varies between tornado and snowstorms, based on your location or something. It's just a script.

This has been the most awesome use of a comic I recall. Kudos. Also, I found an interesting comic and thread and I've forgotten to stop, now my day is shot .... but in a very pleasant and entertaining way.

Georgia, USA here.

Chrome: Blade Runner turtle. (or Electric Sheep turtle for nitpickers)

Firefox: Snake variant.

IE: Earthquake to Tornado...
...although I'm a bit close to the coast for tornadoes. Hurricanes would be more appropriate. OR if we're going in why you wouldn't like it here in Statesboro, the gnats would be more fitting. Seriously, you can't blink your eyes in the summer for fear of catching a gnat in your eyelashes.

The Earthquake is particularly amusing due to the actual quake everyone near ATL freaked about a couple years ago.

Atlanta, GA. My girlfriend did Chrome and Firefox and got snake and turtle, had some laughs.

I tried Amazon Silk, mobile Safari, Opera, and IE and got empty vortex, empty vortex, empty vortex, and empty vortex.

This is about par for the course for me.

The hat-shaped bulge (in the second panel of http://i.imgur.com/VCvKw.jpg) is an elephant that the snake has swallowed. cf. de Saint-Exupéry, A., Le Petit Prince (1943).

Brilliant Comic!
I'm from Hungary,
Got the Snake on Chrome & Chromium on xp
The Aurora on my "dumb"phone (Sony-E-Elm) with opera mini
The snakes again on Linux mint+chrome
and the turtle on Firefox - also in mint
This comic made me register... It's simply amazing. Good job!

That last panel is so, so very true. When I was a kid, I would spend every spring frightened that a tornado would knock down my house.

Wouldn't have thought that this of all things would make me finally register.

I am from the Great White North.

We got something like 50 cm of snow this winter.

On the upside, I didn't have to shovel snow all that much. The downside is that it somehow feels disappointing to not get blasted with 30 cm of snowfall in one night.

I love how this comic changes based on browser and location.

I got the earthquake/hurricane one and it read North Carolina instead of the other states I've been seeing on this thread.

Which I find particularly humorous because of that earthquake we had last summer. xD

From Wisconsin.

Firefox, Windows 7: Aurora, with "CNN saying it can be visible as far south as us"
Chrome, Windows 7: Black Hat Guy harassing turtles

Firefox and Chrome are on my laptop connected to the university network.

Mobile Web Browser, Verizon Wireless: White hole.
Mobile Web Browser, University Wireless: Earthquake/Blizzard combination with Wisconsin specificity. Odd that it picks up on my phone being in Wisconsin, but not my laptop, when they're both connected to the same network.

If you want to try new ones, but you get as i did always the same umwelt, try playing with the parameters of this:

http://umwelt.xkcd.com/story/ghenkEggov8?callback=waldoCallback&w=1042&h=117&r=&_=13

w/h are the browser Width-Height, r is the referral of the link to xkcd (try with 4chan or wikipedia), and I guess that _ should have something to do with the IP, haven't checked.

You will get the PNG file name(s) of the files in the //http://imgs.xkcd.com/a1panels/ directory in "url". Alt-text will be there ,also.

hello all you americans :3 i've read the whole thread and nobody's posted the one i'm seeing yet.

I'm in Glasgow, Scotland. got this one on both firefox and chrome
when i go on IE, i get the one about the tortoise in the desert instead.

Before i came and read this thread, i thought the alt text was actually it. Like, that he was poking fun at americans that don't see any of the world outside their own country.

WRONG! “Umwelt” is the German word for “environment”. (In the sense of “the world around us”.)

As a punishment, I will torture you by calling a Steak House (a house called “House” that was steak-ized) with my handy, and tell them “I become a steak! And I will a Schüttel-Shake!”. Then a woman with sillicon breasts, a slip you can see below the mini-rock and the matching brain (hint: not that of a genie) will come to my door, and bring it to me. I open the door, and still she hands me the steak. I get suspicious, and assuming the steak is full of gift, I throw it in the trash.
Well, does this make and sin to you?? … See?

IE, Safari, Mozilla Aurora, and iPhone 4 w/ AT&T are the swirling white circle, Firefox is the green clouds.

Chrome

Nothing interesting here in Washington state:

Linux/Opera 11: white circle
Linux/Firefox 10: turtle
Linux/Firefox 10 with noscript: reviews
Linux/Dillo 3: reviews
Linux/Mosaic 2.7: no comic
Linux/Wine IE: white circle
Linux/Lynx: no comic
Linux/Iceweasel 10 in private browsing mode over TOR: turtle
Win98/Opera 8.5: no comic
Win98/IE 6: white circle
Win98/Netscape 4.8: no comic
Win98/Netscape 6.2: no comic
WinXP/IE 6: white circle
Win 8/IE 10 beta: white circle

Chromium is still compiling. Even with six cores, 32GB RAM, and a ramdisk, it takes a while.
