Wow, talk about an April Fools! I wouldn't have even guessed this if I hadn't visited the forum.

I live in Illinois, which is probably meaningful for my Firefox image:

But For IE I get this odd
Image

I haven't gotten a multi-panel comic and I don't use any other browsers, so I can't see the "middle panel enlarging" thing for myself.

Windows 7 from Australia
Firefox (11?) and safe mode: Black Hat Man at a desk and being a classhole to a turtle
Opera and IE (not sure if most recent...): some sort of vortex
Chrome and safe mode: snake going through a Portal TM pair with White Beret Man riding
Position vacant: new signature. No experience necessary, apply within.

I take back what I said about the units. Seems like it is dynamically generated. Rythoka getting kilometers in Oklahoma must have been either a bug or some routing wackiness.

I'm getting 6 km (4 miles) in Toronto, Canada, while sardia above me got 3 miles (5 km) in Illinois. I wonder whether this figure is dynamically generated based on the population density? Anyone else getting different numbers?

I'm in Boston on Mac OS 10.5

On Safari I get a comic making fun of 21, where the MIT students can't count cards. The comic is constant with respect to broswer size expcept at maximum window size there is an addition character added who points out the MIT students can't count properly.

On Firefox I get the snake comic and all the panels after the 1st one have multiple variations. Too many to list, I think each has like 3 or 4 layers showing depending on both height and width of screen, with the max screen showing all the possible easter eggs all together.

On Chrome I get the newspaper comic, which is constant.

Here in Germany, with both Firefox 11.0 and Chrome 18.0 on MacOS X 10.6, I get this image:
Umwelt-Germany.png

The alt text is: "Umwelt is the idea that because their senses pick up on different things, different animals in the same ecosystem actually live in very different worlds."

With Safari 5.1.4 on the same system, I get that black one with the white circle that others have already posted. The alt text is the same as above, but with "Everything about you shapes the world you inhabit--from your ideology to your glasses prescription to your web browser" appended. Note this is slightly different to the one about browser window size.
I wrote a book... shameless self-promotion inside the spoiler tag.

Using a User-Agent switcher, I've determined that I can only view two comics: The one about Oklahoma, and one small one-panel landscape.

I sincerely hope Randall explains the setup and allows all of the comics to be viewed tomorrow.

Does anyone here think Randall would use server resources to randomize the comic panel URLs every now and then to keep us from doing this? Sounds a bit crazy to me, honestly.

Randall, I love you, and your wonderful Alaska themed comic for my Google Chrome. So excellent. Also, once again, not something I thought was a known topic outside of alaska, you seem to have localized knowledge of these places you did these for. And I got the snake one in Safari. I'm a Mac Snow Leopard guy in Alaska right now. Currently having boot problems with my linux bits and pieces, or I'd start screen capping those.

In the snake comic, there is an extra panel (containing a mirror image (minus the text) of the first panel. Apparently this snake has two heads.) that only appears for me if I stretch the comic past maximum size (1920x1080) and extend it onto my second monitor. I wonder if any of the other comics do this.

Just for completeness,

Is the URL is generates for Germany, Seamonkey 2.8 on W7 x64 (link to the original instead of a screenshot).

Now that I know from this thread it is dependent on some things I hope I can find the rest.
My old "html 1.1" knowledge was enough to get me the link above, maybe I have to update it to the year 2012 now.

Also Australia.

I've tried it with Seamonkey in Puppy Linux and Firefox in Xubuntu and got the Black Hat Man hooked up to the lie detector while being asked a hypothetical question about a turtle both times.

How do you know it isn't happening all the time? Would you even notice? I've heard that Google does this a lot, and your search results can vary dramatically by location.

It's just in this case, people are meant to notice.

I tried looking at the source with the view Page Source option, and I got the page source for the Reviews comic instead. So I tried Save Page and opened the page with a text editor and found three images (could be individual panels) with nonfunctional URLs. When I load the saved file in my browser I get no images.

Here's the relevant code:

I get the extra panel only when I resize the Safari window maximum width (or use full screen mode) on my 1680x1050 display. Is it possible the script detects when the window is as large as possible?
