"Remission" should be worth at least a quadruple word score.

It's probably a good thing that Randall keeps his personal life so private. I'm pretty sure two years of concern, prayers, well-wishes, and now cheers and optimism would make anyone's inbox asplode.

That said, the last row of panels is the best thing I've read in a long time. And it took me a second to realize that was a tree, and not a mushroom cloud.

It took me until about halfway through this comic to realize that this was the story of Randall Munroe & co.

And when I did I started to smile.

Anyways... I'm going to admit I chuckled at the scrabble cell. Nice to know even cancer has its advantages.

I'm so sorry for being a Debbie Downer, but I feel like I need to express how awkward this comic made me feel. I'm happy for Mr. Monroe and his beau, and this wasn't a bad comic, but I just can't laugh at it. The jokes were there and I know that they weren't all that bad, but something feels a little off. Although I'm not quite a hundred percent about this comic, I extend my congratulations and hope to see another awkward comic this time next year. Because bluntly, if I don't see another one of these, then overall comic quality would likely drop considerably and that's no good for anyone.

Congratulations! I hope this is the first of many biopsy-versaries.

I wish there was a poster of this comic in the store that when bought generated donations to some cancer research foundation. I'd totally buy some.

Seeing that nobody else mentioned it ...

"You're doing science, and you're still alive." appears to be a reference to the song "Still Alive" (played during the credits of the Portal game, popularised by geeks around the world, including many who never played the game).

Look it up on YouTube if you haven't seen it yet.

Excerpt from the lyrics:
I'm doing Science and I'm.. still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE

I've read for years and occasionally checked out the fora before, but I just had to register to reply to this one.

My dad only made it about a year after his diagnosis, so believe me when I say that I fucking hate cancer white the white-hot anger of a thousand suns.

A heartfelt congratulations to the both of you and hopes for many, many more years to come!!! :D

Doing science! This is all good, but that's the best part. They have more time to learn and explore together.

Some people whine that the universe is unfair. Others make it fair. Randall's wife may not discover a cure for cancer, but she may discover knowledge that leads to the discovery of cures. None of us may live long enough to see that. But those who survive, because of our efforts, will live to see it for us.

"Randall Munroe. Wasn't he the husband of ..."

"Yes. She changed everything!"

It took a little while for me to load, and now the picture's don't come up. Is this just me, or is it traffic?

That was really, really, really good. So much in so few panels. I especially liked the panel with the whale. It felt magical in that desolate way.

Like others, once I realised what the comic was about, I started to cry. Really emotional moment; I have a big heart that way.

Congrats Randall & co. Here's to another two years.

[From being a 4 year lurker, I've just made a forum account to say the above.]

These kinds of comics on XKCD are always the best and worst one to me. I connect with them so much and it's because I connect with them that they are hard to read.

Congratulations to you both!

I just passed the 2 1/2 year mark myself and am about to go through a second round of surgery and chemo and getting lost in your comic always makes my day, this one most of all for being able to connect with someone I have never even met. Congrats again, it really does make time matter.

Yeah, I like this one. This was a bad year for me. Skin Cancer, lymph node removal and an adrenal tumor, which I just got removed. Writing this in hospital bed at the moment. And a brain tumor a few years ago. I like this one, even though I got no gal. Surviving through this solo.
