Damn you! That was what I was going to say.

To Randall and his loved one(s). Happy Biopsyversary, hopefully there are many more to come.
:)

You are carrying:
- a slightly paranoid Android
- two left feet (not my own)
- a still unfed and very hungry hippo
- broadsword of +5 ridiculousness stained with the blood of the undead souls
- a stetson Resistol, cuz stetson Resistols are cool.

Congratulations on your biopsy-versary! I hope you get to celebrate many more together!

Like several others on this thread, I created my forum account to reply to that comic-- no, it wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, but it was more poignant and meaningful than most things one reads on a daily basis. Thank you for that.

Since you seem to like outdoorsy experiences, I also wanted to point you and your wife in the direction of a non-profit that offers free adventure programs for young adult (18-39) cancer fighters/survivors: First Descents (it won't let me post a URL, but it's the first hit that comes up if you Google the name). The intent is to empower anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis to reclaim life through taking on a challenge like climbing, kayaking, surfing, hiking, etc. I hope that you find it intriguing, but even if you don't, I'm so glad that you've reached this milestone. Keep fighting the cancer!

This has to be my favourite web comic of all time

I'm so happy for you both.

We're currently somewhere between panel 6 and 7 and looking forward to getting to where you are.

To love and happiness.

A member of my extended family just lost that particular battle, and another is soon to do so. It made me so glad to read this, this morning, and know that there are those who have a better outcome. I'm so very, very happy for you. May you enjoy many more wonderful years together.

Mr. Munroe,

I am continually awestruck by your clear communication of the breadth and depth of both the mystery of and the understanding of humanity and the universe. Your honest expressions eloquently capture what it is to be human and possibly transcend to all life that is imperfect and mortal. I think your statue belongs beside John Lennon's as they flank the entrance to the Empathetic Human Hall of Fame (I hope you find that complementary and not off-putting). Thank you for braving the world to put your beacon in the sky. Knowing you have existed will help keep me sane.

Cheers.

7 years ago, I was at camp and my wife phoned me with that "oh, god" news
surgery, radio therapy, drugs and pain followed
18 months ago she was called "all clear" after MRI, CT, PET, and mammograms
...
we had a great 6 months
...
12 months ago today we sat in another sterile room and got the "oh, god" news for a second time.
urgent surgery, drugs and more pain followed

we share your "biopsy-versy" and very much look forward to sharing many many more as the years tick past

Like so many others, I created an account just to say congratulations to Randall and his mate. Life can really suck sometimes, but it's been two years, and she's still here (and still doing science and still alive). It's positively refreshing to see your gratefulness, and impossibly touching that you thought to share such a momentous event with us.

So like the others, Happy Biopsy-versary. May you both live to see many, many, many more. :)

Congratulations! Took me a while to make sense of the comic, huge impact when I did.

Now that we have a solid picture of Randall's lady friend, anyone for comparing it against every picture ever posted on the internet? I know which websites I'll be starting at.. 8-)

A few years ago, back when Guitar Hero was brand new, I was playing with some of my friends. I was playing against the guy (call him Jason) who first found out about Guitar Hero, and was far and away the best out of any of us. I was pretty good myself, but Jason was killing me. Halfway through, my other friends thought they would level the playing field by tackling Jason and try to prevent him from winning. A few days later, Jason was in the hospital, receiving his first treatment for Leukemia. Turns out on the day we played Guitar Hero, he had been feeling extremely sick and weak, and could barely stand, let alone handle being tackled and held down.

He still beat me. Jason is awesome, cancer sucks, and I'm so happy both he and yours are doing well.

Although I'm not quite a hundred percent about this comic, I extend my congratulations and hope to see another awkward comic this time next year. While there are some funny moments in this comic -- zarg -- I don't think the point is to make you laugh. I suspect it's simply Randall being grateful that they've made it this far. Not every comic he does has to be a laugh riot.

And, yes, I got teary eyed.

And, yes, I also thought it was a mushroom cloud at first.

Wonderful news and a very appropriate for the Christmas season. I'm really glad my prayers to the God you can't yet bring yourself to believe in were answered so marvellously. I continue to pray for many more biopsiversaries and remissiversaries in the years to come. Keep us posted and don't hold back any news.

Oh, and could you restore the direct link to this forum to the comic?

But I had to register. How on earth can a B+W cartoon manage to encapsulate so much pain, fear, hope, success, and... love? I was choking back tears in the office.

Luckily, no-one noticed.

Just past the 1 year anniversary of my (then) 15 year old daughter's diagnosis ... Hodgkins. Three months of chemo (clueless teacher in school hall: "Hey, you can't wear hats in school!" awesome, self-assured daughter: "I can, I have cancer!", depressed teacher goes home to tell family she yelled at kid with cancer: "I'm a horrible person!"). One month of proton therapy (protons ... fuck yea!). There's anniversaries, and then there's anniversaries.

Love your work.

My deepest congratulations to you both :)

My girlfriend sent me this and I had to comment. This was so familiar to us both- and so wonderful. I just made my appointment this morning with my oncologist for my one year anniversary since being declared in remission for testicular cancer. Seeing your comic reminded me so much of my own time (though with less scrabble)- it was a truly terrible time for me. And yet, because of my girlfriend's love and support, some of my most joyous memories come from that same time.

They were big years.

Thank you.

Now, there could be a comic with the history of new users registering on xkcd fora, and the comics they correspond to.
