Suicide

Postby silverhammermba » Mon Jul 09, 2007 7:10 pm UTC

This is a tricky topic.

What's your opinion on suicide? Should it be restricted in any way? If so, how? If you oppose it, why? How should the government/society deal with attempted suicide?

Though I think that suicide is a horrible and often foolish solution to the problems of life, I am unsure of how I stand as far as regulating or preventing it. I think that suicide is never actually the best option for anyone, it just seems like the best option sometimes if your emotions or surroundings are inhibiting rational thought. Despite this, I feel that strictly preventing suicide would be an encroachment on our freedoms.
To have the ability to destroy something, some might argue, is to have complete control over it. If the government prevents someone from taking their own life then they are taking away that person's right to make their own life choices.

And what if a person fails in committing suicide? Do you commit them to a mental hospital and force psychiatrists and doctors upon them? That doesn't seem like it will solve any problems.

There is an SB topic on this, called "I hate myself and I want to die".
The drinking will continue until morale improves.

I want to know how you punish someone for suicide.
"Oh, you killed yourself? Jail time for you!"

As the celestial theropod pointed out, there's already a thread for this.

Let the locking commence.
