Creationists twist themselves into a knot

Postby sevenperforce » Wed Dec 30, 2015 5:48 pm UTC

Not sure if this is best placed in News & Articles or over in science, but I saw this article today and thought it was pretty clever.

Dodging Darwin: How Ken Ham’s Ark is slowly embracing evolution

Each species most likely to be identified by creationists as representative of the “original created kind” within each of their “baramin” groups. The depicted representatives of Canidae and Felidae have specifically been identified by Answers in Genesis; others have been selected from the largest, most “advanced” extinct members of the clade or superclade known from full fossil skeletons.

Creationists claim that the various “baramins” all have intrinsic, essential differences that render them totally unique and distinct from one another, but the presumed ancestors of each of these groups are all very, very similar. In fact, if creationists were presented with only the eight “ancestral” species depicted above, they would likely group most or all of them into a single baramin based on their obvious similarities. There is more morphological and genetic variation within each of the terminal “baramins” identified by Answers in Genesis than there is within the collective group formed by their ancestors.

Baramins do exist, I have seen them.

Give it another decade, and they'll be arguing that God made evolution all along, and it was a part of his secret plan. Just like how the earth revolved around the sun. Also harassing Galileo was also part of Gods plan. To test us. * rolls eyes.

Yeah, that's pretty old, and fairly well accepted. Them moving up to that would at least be progress. Still sort of annoying, mind you, but at least being a mere century behind is a grudging step in the right direction.

I'm still trying to figure out who has made the argument that a cat can give birth to a chicken.

That could mean the chicken came before the egg.

Unless the cat was hatched from an egg laid by a elephant.

I thought a baramin was a baritone theremin.

I don't know about cats giving birth to chicken, but Utah State Sen. Chris Buttars thought he could refute evolution by saying, "We get different types of dogs and different types of cats, but you have never seen a 'dat.'"

This is basically the position of every mainstream Christian (and Jewish) branch. Basically everyone except the fundamentalists.
