In Math we call this sort of thing an "overloaded operator".

While at my last unit, we went to Fort Hood, TX, to run a training rotation with units there. Very poor planning on the part of the host unit caused them to fall behind in erecting our sleeping tents out in the training area - so they apparently hired a number of (possible) illegals to help them get the tents up in time for our arrival. We showed up in our 15 passenger government-owned vans - about 15 vans painted white or blue, with tinted windows. The workers thought we were ICE, and took off, some heading toward the impact area  . We had to put the tents up ourselves, but we had a good laugh.

In philosophy we call this sort of thing "the fallacy of equivocation."

In my world we call this "a god damn joke" and just have a good laugh instead of trying to sound overly superior and unamused.

Ehh... I was trying to make a further joke out of it by starting a trend of "In X we call this sort of thing Y." I was amused by the wordplay/confusion of the two meanings for alien.

Both were funny - but in such close proximity there seemed an air of superiority about it.

Carry on, then!

Is it bad that when I saw the title, the first thing I thought of were illegal immigrants, and not beings from outer space? This is especially troubling, because I just got done with a 7 hour long marathon of Stargate....
Odds are I did well on my probability exam.

Hmmm. Maybe you need to go back to watching sg-1.
12 hour marathon, that should fix your problem!

Funnily enough, since the forums were running a bit slow, I did in fact go back to watching SG-1.

I thought it was a very amusing use of the word Alien. I just happened to be talking about abusive use of notation with someone not minutes before and that's what popped into my head.

I wonder when we'll start to benefit from the advanced technology our benevolent government will extract from them. (Certainly without waterboarding, how could you even suggest such a thing?)
