I want one.

A remote controlled pigeon.
Like so.
Please tell me this is not the coolest thing ever, before I rush off to bribe Shandong University. On a somewhat related note: Data carrier pigeons!

So... what happens if it's mid-flight or something and then they try and make it move somewhere else? Can it think for itself at all any more? And if not that would totally suck because how's it going to eat, and things?

It is a pretty interesting scientific concept, but I feel badly for the birds, I guess. I should have let them have a go at Evil Budgie; he'd be up for it, I think.

You could fly it round and make it poo on the heads of people you don't like.

That is really amazing and really disturbing...

How long 'till they make RC dogs with mounted cameras?
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold,
But if you lose, the devil gets your sould!

If they can do a dog, they can do a person.

THAT is the disturbing part :|
Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy.

Honestly, if they can do a bird, they can probably do a dog. Flight is likely a lot more complex than walking.

A person's motor cortex isn't that much of a leap from what they're doing now.

The trick would be stopping them from chanting "Guys, I'm totally not in control of what's going on right now, could you possibly hold me down and remove the remote tranceiver from my brain pan?"

You think locking the jaw closed would be harder than making a leg move?

I would guess they are tapping the bits of the brain that say 'do this' rather than the bits of the brain that actually relate to the direct muscular control.

I envision the future of pets... who needs a leash when you have a little joystick to move your dog around?
Putting this in people would be simple, and reeeeally scary. Troop morale? No problem! Elections? Gone! The only hard part would be getting lawmakers to agree. But... <master plan for world domination> what if the lawmakers were already implanted with our mind control device, sophisticated enough to control fine motor and speech? Muahaha. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!</master plan for world domination>
Oh well.

Hmm. Probably right.

Problem would be that, in order to control a person totally, you'd have to be able to spare *at least* another whole person to control them. Doing this for an army, or a populace, would be pretty prohibitive.

Or you could just have a reeeeeeally good AI. Hey, the whole situation's unrealistic, I can throw in huge, diabolical computers?
