Interesting stuff-but the third one, the one about gunboats in the Potomac, gets me a 404 error. You may want to fix it.

Nope, still 404. Maybe it's only available to people in Britain?

Ah cool, thanks.

That's a lot of security. It makes me feel more confident about next Tuesday.

Obama has one hell of a staff now. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the country will fair with him. As far as the car, i've already seen the specifics of it and its a beast of a car. Assassination talks should be over by now, ha.

Man, working on designing that car would have been awesome. I can only imagine how stupidly large the budget must be for that thing.

Er, they mention an armored body in that car.....but does it cover the underside? What sort of protection would it have from a standard car bomb placed underneath?

They have a defense system for that as well. A reinforced five inch steel plate that runs along the bottom of the car for underside bombs and such. Again, ive seen the full blueprint of the vehicle, its a beast.

Given how strictly they've told the press that they're protecting the specifics of the car, should we expect that you'll be arrested soon for that post? For your one phone call you get in prison, could you get someone to post here and let us know how you're doing?

I'd be happy to point out to you why they're fake, if you'd like. Mostly because...well, nobody actually uses blueprints in this industry anymore. 3D CAD all the way, baby.

Doesn't mean they can't print to PDF, admittedly they'll probably be black and white but that's not so important. I'd be happy accept blueprints as referring to technical drawings, whether or not they're blue.

While I am excited to see Bush go, and think Obama will be a much better president, I have to quote the Bugle to bring the mood in this thread down from its Kool aid high.

John Oliver on the Bugle wrote:Well Andy, America is about to swear in its forty fourth president. By the time this Bugle goes out it will be a matter of hours untill the most historic day in the history of america goes down in history books for the rest of ... errr... what's the word .... time! That's it, for the rest of time. Are people getting carried away here Andy? Yes! Are they setting themselves up for inevitable disappointment? Yes! Are the aware of that quite yet? Absolutely not!

This really is an exception. Inaugurations aren't normally anything like this. It's the combination of an incredibly unpopular president leaving office, and an incredibly popular president-elect being sworn in. Add to that how historic Obama's election in and of itself is, and you have the perfect recipe for attracting millions of people to the inauguration. If McCain (or almost any of the other folks in the primaries) had been elected, I doubt there'd be near this much celebration. KF

Not to mention the PM isn't even the head of state, so isn't really comparable to the PUSA. Think about the fuss the Commonwealth'll make over the crowning of the next King.

Looking for some last minute accommodation for the inauguration? Unlike other hotels and resorts near D.C., the Pinetree Club didn't raise its rates this week and is welcoming guests.

And after all of this, you still refuse to post a link which, as you say, is located so conveniently in your bookmarks. Which means the blueprints are publicly available online. Which means that every Associated Press article concerning the Beast where the words "secretive" and "don't talk about it" are used ad nauseum are, in fact, wrong, whereas you, IggyJack, are right.

I'm quite calm. You, however, need help.

Yay nudists!

EDIT: By the way, some casual numbers... a 5 inch steel plate, 8 feet wide and to provide full protection about 18 feet long gives you a steel volume of about 60 cubic feet. At 490 lbs per cubic foot, that's more than 29,000 lbs, just for this one armored plate that you saw on publicly available blueprints of the President's top-secret limo. A steel plate which would offer absolutely zero protection from the concussive force that a bomb in such a confined location would doubtlessly create. A steel plate which would reduce the President to a fine layer of Kenyan jam all over the inside of the limo. If that's the best your engineers can come up with, I weep for the Presidency.

Mark the day. If the whole thing turns out to be a sham, and Obama changes nothing and reneges on every promise, this might be the very first step on that line.
