But strangely, the news results are fine. Maybe they have a separate scanning alg. for those sites?

So it is.

I wonder what the problem was?

If I do a search and then hit refresh a few times the problem seems to toggle on and off.

So it is. Maybe Google has multiple servers (load-balancing) and only some of them are affected.

I've not had it again as of yet.

And it's interesting that you, too, chose to google "google" to obtain test results.

Problem possibly caused by the site-checking software changing? Like, the requirements for a blacklisted site changed from "contains malware" to "contains HTML"?

Oh, yes, it would be a software change at their end for sure. You'd think they would have a sandbox and oversight.

The reason I choose "google" was because it was generic. I noticed it on a different search term (and tried out a few) but this one means people can't draw conclusions about me. Suppose I used "can raptors pick locks?" - you would be wondering why I searched that.

I googled "can raptors pick locks", and Wikipedia says that they can(not).

I had it for less than half an hour. All sites were marked dangerous.

Then all was fine. But looks like they switched off the filter completely. I think sites which had warnings earlier don't have them now.

Maybe stopbadware.org was hacked ?

As a follow-up to that link CrunchyFoodstuff posted: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/ ... er-on.html
They apparently flagged "/" as dangerous. The *only* way that can be described is: epic fail.

This reminds me of that joke about dihydrate monoxide being a key ingredient of 100% poisonous aquatic substances.

How is that related at all?

Also, it would be dihydrogen monoxide, if you want to use correct terminology.

Well, you know, "/" is a key ingredient of 100% of harmful internet sites...
