My guess:
(MSC
?????)
possibly "Miscellaneous something." Looks to me like the thing right after "(MSC" is just part of one of the mountains.

To get to xkcdia, you first need to breed a gold chocobo, then use it to fly to the hidden spot where the four corners of the map meet.

my favorite is the fact that the Bay of Angst is right off the coast of Xanga and LiveJournal. Second favorite is that Runescape looks like it is 1/3rd the size of WoW, i didnt know that.

Dammit, why isn't that island grouping to the lower left called the
Blagopelago? I'm
doing my best to promote these malapropisms, but if RM isn't helping, I don't know why I should bother.

xkcd and its fans are the only people I've ever heard a blog called a blag. I don't think it's a widespread internet phenomenon.

Knowledge is Power and Time is Money, so
Knowledge = Work / Money, and Money = Work / Knowledge
Therefore, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity (regardless of work done), and vice versa.

It seems to me like 4chan should be bigger, as well as some forum sites... I don't think a nation as small as 4chan would be able to really invade a nation as big as myspace, but they've done it.

I agree. The United Pages of Porn should be some hyperpower, using it's power to influence international net relations between the nations.

I think maybe it says "Chu ck Norris," but it's really hard to tell, so don't quote me on that.

I made a story describing my "journey" through the internet, based on the lines drawn on the map. It's extremely long and I don't want to flood the forum. But who wants to read it?

The kind that occurs when Saladin asks me to enable a word filter so he never has to see Mr. Norris' name on the fora again.
And a valuable lesson was learned by all.

For those who are saying that 2channel and 4chan should be larger, remember that a huge amount of the posts are anonymous (or at least I know that's true for 4chan...) This makes it almost impossible to accurately gage the real size of the poster base, thus impossible to figure out how large the island should be. I agree with Mother Superior's post that 4chan should have been blurry. Also, another person who would buy this as a poster. It would be even better if we got bi annual updates to this! ^^b

I have to say that it simply wouldn't be as-awe inspiring (to new people, I always move the hyphen to the left of wherever I normally should put it). It is good now because it was so fresh and unexpected. If that happens then it will just become business as usual.

Hey, me too.
I love the map, though I would have expected a fairly substantial GameFAQs island somewhere in the Ocean of Subculture between YTMND and MMORPGia. I suppose the LUE peninsula would have been a little too obscene for a G-rated comic.
EDIT: Though I have preserved it for posterity, I would like to officially announce that the above implication that xkcd is a "G-rated" comic has been thoroughly rebuked and should under no circumstances be taken seriously. It is clear that my knowledge of both xkcd and the MPAA rating system is utterly insufficient. I have seen the error of my ways and am currently seeking help.

From reading the site, it looks to me like it is indeed simply number of subscribers.

It probably wouldn't even get away with PG-13. Almost all comics are fine, but we have:
*
the clit mouse
*
The Mathematics of Cunnilingus
* At least
five occurances of
the word fuck and one of
cunt (which alone assures an R rating from the MPAA if you treat the whole series as a movie)
* And a couple of pretty suggestive comics, particularly
this
BTW, Chuck Norrіs. Please don't ban me.

While I agree with several other posts about some inaccuracies I still laughed and enjoyed the comic (which is the point isn't it?). A larger version with the text readable or a list of the approximate sizes he used would be great.
Why are the various islands of the "Wikipedia" project connected to each other and MIT, some IRC server, and engadget/gizmodo?

Any child who gets xkcd is mature enough to see a few 'fuck's and the occasional stick woman griping at the bed.

What happened to the word filter there? Hmm... "Bruce Schneier" *previews*. It still works for me. How come it didn't work when you said it?
