Starting a 2nd chess game in its own thread to keep things simple.

Rules:

Only valid moves count (follow the thread for castling/en passant/etc; feel free to comment on which state was valid)
You cannot play until the board changes position twice since your last turn (corollary 1: you can't make this a one on one game; corollary 2: You can swap sides while playing)
Brains only, please

Since I finished the last game, I'll leave this open for someone else to start...

This list of guidelines has evolved based on user preferences during the first experimental stage of forum chess. If anyone can think of other suggestions, let me know.

Guidelines:

The preferred format for game play is to quote the previous board position (excluding notation/who to play), then to post notation for the move, the new board position, and "whose" turn it is.
Regardless, all posts should show at a minimum the board position (notation is nice, but I'm more concerned with anyone being able to play).
It's strongly suggested that you learn Algebraic chess notation and use it within posts.
Tim Mann's winboard/xboard program is very useful to keep track of the game.
When the game ends, a new thread should be created for the next game. The thread title should include a unique name for the game ("Game x", where x changes, is suggested); the first post should contain the rules.

Gah! I missed the end of the last game Nice to see a new game already going though. And a queen pawn game to boot. These can tend to be terribly slow and cramped games, but I think we should make things lively. My favorite play, the queen's gambit.

Rather than the obvious Bxa5, I think I'll play Nd6+

My train of thought:

... Kf8
Qxf8#
Yeah, black's not gonna walk into that.

... Kd7
Qxf7+ Kd8
Bxa5+
White wins a pawn in addition to the queen, and gets awesome position. There's also potential to get the a1 rook into play with Rc1

... Kd8
Bxa5+ (note: Qxa8+ doesn't work because Kd7 threatens the queen with the h8 rook, and black gains a tempo to save the queen)
White's night is in better position, black's rook on a8 is hanging, and he can't play Kd7 to save it because then white does Qxf7#

I think Black is pretty much screwed.

I think the most interesting thing to do here would be to replace DonChubby's move and go back to an interesting board state (potential for black trading his queen for a bishop and rook) (since I think the game is trivialized even after my BxQ since black is left in such a bad position.)

Good catch on the board correction. I'm declining to move since I made the last move though, so it's white to move. (Looking back, my move deserves half a ? without the black bishop at g7, though it's still a playable position.)
