Step by step tutorial, I know I need to most likely use the Sine law, oblique and right triangle laws, but how exactly?

Use the law of sines to find the missing side, and use right triangle trig to solve for the height.

No. You're on the right track, but the line in your diagram with length 258m is not the height of the hot air balloon. (In fact, that line is not vertical.)

Take a look at this. You were on the right track, just left out some right angles or had a slip in calculating some angles. Note where I drew in right angles.
