Um. What? I think womanizing implies you really like to sleep with women, don't respect women, and have loose morals regarding women. Nothing in there about feeling threatened. Seriously, where did you get that from?

Yes, James Bond is manly...he's a womanizer, which as somebody else said, is a character flaw, but that does not detract from the fact that he is the quintessential man.

Because womanizing, in my rough pinion, is the overall degrading/insulting/undermining of women as a whole. You degrade things you A) don't respect (if you don't respect women, you're not manly). B) afraid of/threatened by (again, unmanly, as you aren't facing your opponents/fears head on) or C) uncertain of (being awkward/unsure around women isn't exactly unmanly, so I'll concede this point).

I don't think Bond is a really classical womanizer, I think he's a classic playboy. Theres a slight, but significant difference.

A lot of people in this thread seem to think that 'manliness' is something you can just frivolously joke about and be silly with. That's fine, but when people choose to talk about it seriously, kindly try to not chime in and hope you are also taken seriously. Yes, lumberjacks and bacon is manly. So is scratching your balls for eight out of twelve waking hours. And biting the heads of deer. But believe it or not, theres a pretty significant history and cultural backdrop to the cult of masculinity, and some people are interested in, and believe in upholding it's tenants. And they do not include drinking yourself stupid, womanizing, isolating your emotions to the point of roboticism (thats a word now), or being an asshole.

The problem is when people come into a thread that has clearly never been taken seriously and start trying to be serious, it never turns out well.

I want to make it absolutley clear that Bond has avoided bacon in all of the movies and in all of the books that I've read (I still have a few more to go that might still yield some bacon, though the trend says no).

This is clearly proof that Bond is not manly.

Has he actually consciously avoided it, or just not happened to have encountered it during the course of the book/movie?

Ok, so Bond doesn't respect women in that he's a womanizer. He also doesn't respect alot of people, since he shoots people and blows up a lot of buildings. That's basically flipping the whole world off and doing what you damn well please. In my books, asshole-ish, but definitely manly.

Consciously avoided it. It's stated a couple times that Bacon is a tool used exclusively by SPECTRE for the slow destruction of the western world.

It's even worse when you just outright sit on them. Which happens occasionally. It's a good excuse to sit with your crotch in a prominent position though. Also, sitting like that gives a tiny bit more ventilation ;) Health benefits on many levels!

Cue a story that happened 2 years ago with me.. Amazing time with the new girl on the block. After some sexytimes she decides to go to the bathroom, and by accident, when standing up puts her knees on my balls. I did the mainly thing and screamed a lot of curse words for about 4 minutes.

I got a royal treatment later as compensation. It was amazing :)

yohan, it's a well-established fact that pointing out any and all damage done to said nether-regions should be accompanied by screams of rage, particularly if done by a member of your attracted gender, so that they feel guiltily responsible and are obligated to "kiss it make it better." It is not unmanly to pout during this tirade, if so required.

Not make a sound. You need to look tough to the other guys, and not make any of them want to caress and kiss it to help the pain go away.
