I'd love to do something during March. Maybe the 21st?

The last meetup wasn't as successful: Only one other person came. It still was fun.

I missed two meetups in the interim between visits to here :(

Can someone hit me up on AIM (Cortelus) if another one is being planned?

How about this:

Everyone who doesn't want to miss a meetup, note in your post that you want me to PM you. A few days beforehand, I'll PM everyone who requested as much.

I just moved up here a couple of weeks ago and would love to meet some new people.
March 20th sounds good to me, but I can't guarantee it quite yet. But if everyone is meeting up, then I'd love to get a PM to confirm it.

Oh, and somewhere close to a train station would be great, I don't have a car and don't know the city too well yet.

I don't suppose anyone would be willing to text me when a time and date is established? I unfortunately don't remember to check here very often.

If someone could do that though I'm in.

For food or for coffee or what?

Somewhere in/around the Loop, I think... That'd be the best place, seeing as there's probably suburb people from multiple directions who may be inclined to come. Also, that way we can all be near a train.

There's a Border's on State and Randolph that has a nice Coffee shop in it, if that sounds good to you guys... On a weekday it shouldn't be too crowded, if we wanted to meet then.

Which reminds me.... When did you guys wanna meet? Because March is sorta.... half over already. :P

EDIT: I remembered to check! :D Yay 'Notify me when a reply is posted' checkboxes!

Not to be a purist or a snob, but I feel like in any major city, it's a cryin' shame to visit the Borders Starbucks. The B Pig Cafe was a good example of a neat little small coffee shop.

As long as we're downtown, how about something touristy, like visiting the Bean? An xkcd meetup at Millennium Park would be neat.

Otherwise, I humbly suggest Allende, the best mexican in the world, which is only 5 minute walk from the Red line Fullerton stop, Shine Garden, which is fantastic sushi and only 2 minute walk from the Brown line Armitage stop, or the Billy Goat Tavern on lower Wacker, maybe 9 minute walk from the Red line Chicago stop.

I wouldn't be against millenium park... We could meet up in the bean...

The password should be the first 10 consecutive digit prime in e. (not really, my memory sucks)

Seriously though, the park is great with me... We could meet there and decide what to do once we get there...

And as far as april goes, I think chances are we'll have a meeting then too.

Also, it's not a starbucks, I hate starbucks... But maybe you're right :P

The trouble with any kind of meetup in Millennium Park (and I learned this last summer, when I scheduled one there) is that it's impossible to find out who's there for the meet and who's there as a tourist. Plus, the Loop area is really, really boring if you're not a tourist; it's all just shopping and food (a subset of shopping.) I imagine a museum would be better, and restaurants/cafes are even better.

Of the places Izawwgood suggested, I think Allende is the best... Mexican tends to be accessible to people of all sorts of dietary needs and habits. March 21 kinda works for me, but it might be too soon, and I'm busy March 28... I'd be willing to wait until April 4.

Well... If I had the money to buy one I'd suggest we all wear xkcd shirts :P

Buut, I see your point...

If a museum is what you're up for we could do the Art Institute.

Also: I've lived here for a little under 10 years now... the loop still fails to bore me, and I live in it. :D

EDIT: 21st is good with me, 4th is fine too if it's after noon sometime. I'd prefer the 21st though (tis on my spring break)

So far everything I've heard sounds good. I'd love to suggest something, but seeing as how I'm new to the city I can't be of much help in that arena. I figure that as long as where ever we go is close to food that we can all eat, coffee or tea and something to entertain us if we're all too shy to converse much in real life, we should be good.

Where? Museum of Sci and Ind? Allende?

I assume we have some under 21, so a pub/bar is out?

Holy crap thats this saturday! Sweet! I put forth the following times: 10am. Noon. 4pm.

Also, bear in mind there are TWO allende locations, while both are on lincoln, one is between webster/geneva and beldon, and the other is just north of fullerton. Foods the same, but the one north of fullerton is a mite quieter and less prone to drunken dicks popping in and around (although given the above times, that shouldn't be a problem)

We had a nice meetup of four people. I was a bit late though (got lost). Afterward I took Sheridan Rd. all the way up to Waukegan to get back home. It's pretty nice.

Here's the address of the place I got my hat from.

As a followup to the conversation at the meet:

Jay-Z earned $547 million in 2007. (http://panachereport.com/channels/cover ... nnifer.htm)

This means that he didn't quite earn $99 per second ($1 per problem per second), but $17.345 per second - a number that, incidentally, is astonishingly close to the total number of 'problems' I cited as being in his rap, "99 Problems." So while the old aphorism "Mo' money, mo' problems." holds, it is clear here that Jay-Z does not know how to count. Clearly, he miscounted his number of problems by a factor of over 80 - proof, if anything, that we need to improve education in the math and sciences in inner-city schools.

Just saying.
