After a bit of discussion the town decides to hang up Joshlyn from the nearest pear tree. Unfortunately the branch breaks, Joshlyn falls down and the branch stuns everyone else. Giggling, and thinking she has Lady Fortune on her side, Joshlyn takes a bite of a pear and chokes to death from biting over a bit more than she can chew.

Joshlyn has been lynched.

Town win!

Wait seriously I was right about that bit from lan? NO WAY! AWESOME!

First forum game survived till end: check
First forum game won: check
First forum game not died being lynched(correct or incorrect): check (technically this is second I was nk'ed in AvD)

WOOHOO!

So Ada, tiff, me, and mike won.

Now, AS I have a few questions:

Was the cop sane, crazy, or naive (obviously not insane or paranoid)?

How good/bad were we? (tips would be helpful pretty pretty please (I'll make tiff make her cute pathetic puppy dog face at you if I have to))

Oh, awesome! Good work, town! By the way Brook, you, me, ada, tiffers, trumpkin, mpolo and markstonia all won!

This is my first game of straight mafia on a webforum and I feel pretty pleased with how my scumdar was functioning! lancita made a good logical case for herself but in the end something didn't smell right. And once she fell it was just a matter of going back and noticing how buddy-ish she and Josh had been all game long.

Out of interest: Trumpkin was sane all along, right?

I think the possible setups chosen were a bit "un-newbie friendly" in some ways. I appreciate that you probably don't want to copy those boring guys at MafiaScum, but possibilites of Jesters, SKs and unkown-sanity cops are all a bit too confusing if you're new, I think. Still, this was a lot of fun and turned out pretty balanced in the end. Thanks AngrySquirrel for modding, and letting me sub in halfway though!

Totally /in for next Newbie/vanilla-ish game. Hope to play with you guys again soon!

Yeah - I mentioned that bit in my spoilered analysis. That's what pushed me to vote - I should've pointed it out more explicitly

Yeah, I made a lot of mistakes. I got really overconfident on D1, because I figured since I was posting, I was safe at least through D2. I thought Joshlyn would be lynched before I would, so I figured I should say something about her but not be the first to point her out as suspicious since I didn't want to get her lynched. I also REALLY thought brook was the cop, because with all his talk about cops on D1 I figured he knew there was one. So when Trumpkin claimed on D2, it kind of threw me off track. That, combined with mikek showing up and changing the flow of the game (and accusing me), screwed me over.

I want another vanilla too, but it doesnt have to be newb.

Yes but we lived. Ive never been on a winning team and LIVED!

My scumdar malfunctioned in that I honestly thought mark or trump was scum. And I dont know why Ada blipped me though, but fortunately logic and my scumdar going off wildly at the end corrected me.

lan, why did the scum kill mpolo?

Also yay, I messed with the scum (totally unintentionally, but hey, ill take what i can get)

My PM to Joshlyn said:
We've got a cop somewhere, and I have a feeling it's brooklynxman just from the way he's been posting, as if he knows there's a cop in the game. I'm kind of hesitant to NK him though, since a) he thinks you and I are both innocent, b) if he is the cop I don't think he'd investigate you or me, and c) the cop's not guaranteed sane so he could come up with a scum investigation on someone else.

So we do need to figure out who to NK. Nobody seems to suspect either of us except adacore, who said he was a little suspicious of me, so NKing him might be a bad idea. I guess mpolo would be the least controversial. If we killed Trumpkin it would clear me, but then we'd have to start over with guessing who's scum. Mooman and tiffersk have both been pointed out as being a little scummy, so we might be able to pin things on them.

Oh yeah, I also screwed up with the LYLO thing. I really did miscount, which sucks because I was playing as though D2 was the last day and we only had to find one other person to pin stuff on.

I think you and Joshlyn really played well as scum, lan, the one major mistake being that post Brook quoted saying that Josh lurking wasn't scummy, followed by another post implying that it was, after she'd stopped lurking.

I wish I could tell you what pinged my scumdar for you early on lan, it was just a feeling I had (as you'll know if you read the spoilers in the discussion thread), and I wasn't sure enough of myself to go with a gut instinct call. Later once other people started voicing similar concerns I became a lot more sure of it. In the end though Josh got screwed over by the voting pattern on day 2 - the logical conclusion from it was that either Josh or I were the last scum and, thus, the town had the win in the bag with two lynches available. I think Josh could really have done with casting a vote or two for someone; especially with such small numbers of players not voting is pretty conspicuous.

Postby Joshlyn » Wed Apr 01, 2009 2:26 am UTC

I was making a post defending my position and statements, countering some of the claims made by others but by the time I got around to actually sending it, I was hammered. Oh well, it was looking quite grim already at that point. My schedule didn't allow me to make the votes on time as I wanted, there being so few other players the lynches were too quick for me and that kind of destroyed my game. Looking back, should have chosen some other kill targets, mpolo was kinda randomish choice for me since I didn't feel like lynching one of the more pro-town players to save my own skin and instead of Trumpkin, should have killed someone else but I was too afraid of a possible investigation on me.

Also it was bit unfortunate that the interactions with me and lanicita were the final nail on the coffin since I deliberately avoided interacting with her, but I did this with few others as well not to make it too obvious. Lurking was not that much part of a tactic, I just haven't had the time or interest to get on computer that much lately.

For future, less buddying up with fellow people. I was doing buddying up with few others as well to cover it up, but since there was too much suspicion towards the particular person in that context, it was ineffective tactic.

And yes, the cop was as sane as cops can get.

As far as I can remember, my second investigation was lanicita but I didn't get a result back. I would have investigated her N1 which would make things more useful but I felt brook was contributing the most so his alignment was most important to know. I also felt it hard to criticise lan during D2 since she was supporting me and talking against her would be seen as scummy as far as I can tell, well played lan, you were a worthy nemesis.

Dammit I typed a reply and my connection made me lose it.

lan couldn't have been n2 investigation she was lynched D2, no?

and voicing suspicion of people who support you is okay (I like to apologize first usually), though the situation should be considered (if they are keeping you from being lynched, probably better to hold them till either you are inevitably going to be lynched, or until you are off the chopping block/someone else was lynched, seeing as voicing them and being ignored by the masses and lynched helps no one)

scum are usually the most buddy-buddy

I knew you would :) That's why I was really hoping to stay alive until Day 3, so I could try and convince everyone that Brooklyn was the godfather :)

Just read through this game as a primer last night.

I actually was vaguely thinking lanicita and brooklynx were in cahoots...
