Mmmmmm raspberry-ey.

Thanks guys; I posted my koeksister recipe in the XKCD cookbook (stickied atop the food forum). They're dough braids that get fried and dunked in spiced syrup, which they absorb to become drippy gooey sweet sticky messes of deliciousness. I made them to send into the meatspace as part of the Great XKCD present exchange, and they were very well received.

Yea that looks like regular cookie with chocolate chips, and chocolate cookie with white chocolate/vanilla chips. Zohar: I suggest you try to replicate miggit999's image, only do so where you get the white chocolate/vanilla melted goodness, AND the chocolate melted goodness in the same image. Unfortunately you'll go through alot of cookies trying. I guess you'll have to eat them.

The sausage, pepper and onion sub sandwich is and always will be far superior to the banal and overrated cheesesteak. But in the end, neither can compare to the wonder that is GYROS!

And as far as soups go... THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

QFT. I love gyros. Don't care for the tzatziki (za-zee-kee) sauce that much though. My parents tried to make some with pork. It was fail. You need lamb or veal. Or goat, if you can get your hands on some.

I like cheesesteak to a point, but nothing beats gyros or Italian meatball sandwiches.

Damn. Now I want a gyro.

You want a gyros. It's a Greek word, not a pluralization of the English word gyro. And you need more than just the right meat, you need a vertical spit to cook it properly... One day, I will have such a thing in my own home. One day... And tzatziki is fantastic; to claim otherwise is heresy against the great phallic god of cucumbers and yogurt.

Well now I got one. There's a pizza place near work that sells them, strombolis, calzones, among other goodies. Best. Gyros. EVER!!!! They don't use store-bought pita bread. They use their own pizza dough. Yes, I know it's blasphemy but still it's GOOD! Also asked them to put some cheese on it. Even better. Told them to hold the tzatziki. which they did. Comes with lettuce, tomato, and onion. NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM...

Pork is actually the most common version in Greece. The thing is, it needs the proper spit-roasted gyros texture, not the ground gyros meat product texture you find in the US. I've never seen goat gyros, but I like goat meat, so I'd give it a try.

Cheese? Lettuce? All you need is tomato, onion, sauce (preferably tzatziki), maybe some fried potatoes.

The ideal shawarma is similar, just with a different sauce (something garlicky and/or tahini-based) and different bread. Also, pickles, though those would actually work on gyros as well.

Shawarma is also lovely, and I actually looked for some good pictures, but they were mostly mediocre shots of the ubiquitous food-cart or food-stand kind of shawarma plate. Surely delicious, but not really pron-quality images. I do like lettuce on my gyros, and I prefer to leave the tomato off, as it produces more mush than crunch.
