Had a 'you've played too much fallout 3' moment on the way to my friend's house today. Two cows of the same color were right next to each other looking like a two-headed cow. I thought this was perfectly normal and didn't look twice.

If you're looking for mods, no place has more than Fallout 3 Nexus. The ones I recommend the most are MMMF3 (adds lots of variations of the vanilla enemies (and geckos! it adds geckos!), makes combat AI better and optionally increases the amount of creatures that spawn), XFO (it's listed on the nexus as "Fallout 3 Balance Overhaul", and makes the game far, far better in terms of statistics, ammo and chem rarity and a bunch of other tweaks) and FOOK (adds a huge selection of weapons and armour to the game, including quite a few energy weapons which pleases me). FOOK and MMMF3 are fully compatible, as is XFO and MMMF3, but XFO hasn't yet released a compatibility patch for FOOK yet. The side-effects of this is just that ammunition added by FOOK is far more abundant than the regular stuff.

So you use both XFO and FOOK? I want to play Fallout again, but told myself to wait till some decent mods had surfaced.

EDIT: Reading through XFO, it looks like older versions of FOOK should work with XFO... Hm. Drat, looks like I'm going to have to spend a good deal of time making this work...

Phew. Now I've spent a couple of hours downloading a lot of mods. Now it's just going to be exciting to see if it'll work or just crash on me.

I use all three and it requires very little work to get it working fine, just make sure you read the section in the XFO readme on the load order (you do have FOMM, right?). The newer versions of FOOK use a mod called CALIBR which adds a bunch of different types of ammunition, but not to the world. XFO hasn't released anything to make these compatible, so the only problems you'll find running XFO with FOOK is opening one container and finding two microfusion cells, then opening another and finding a hundred 9x19mm rounds because XFO doesn't control the rarity of CALIBR ammunition. I say just deal with randomly plentiful ammo until XFO gets updated.

So... 'The Pitt.' I found it to be a bit better than the last DLC but also not as much bang for my buck as I would have hoped. I think Bethesda ruined it for me by charging $50 bucks for the full Fallout 3 game which gave me around 40 hours of enjoyment. By my logic if they charge me $10 dollars for the DLC I should have 1/5 ($10 / $50) the enjoyment I did on the original game, or 8 hours. The DLC took me maybe 2-3 hours to complete and I made sure to get as much as possible out of the content. I was really hoping for some more unique quests.

But on that note:
Spoiler:
I really like the morally ambiguous choices you are offered towards the end. You can either steal someone's baby or you can help crush the slave rebellion. Either way I felt like a dick. Plus I like how the rebellion leader goes from "oh please sir, help us poor slaves" to "stop fucking whining and give me the baby." For me it was hard to find the 'good' choice. I made a save right before I had to make my choices so I hope to play through a few more times to see if I missed a chance for a 3rd option like a peace treaty or something. I'm guessing that wasn't in the game but what can it hurt to look.

I'm hoping 'Broken Steel' will be to Fallout 3 what 'Shivering Isles' was to Oblivion. I want a nice long expansion coupled with some new art assets.

Stay out of the town for 3+ days. Generally AI sort of has a reset and people forget your crime.

I'm confused though, why are they shooting at you? If you killed Mr. Burke, the town doesn't mind. They shouldn't anyway. Might be a bug.

Then escape, wait 3 days. That don't work? Wait a few more.

Worked for me when I assassinated Lucas this one time.

Then restart.
Unless you did this quest in later levels (which I highly doubt given your lack of stimpaks, apparently), just restart. You're not far in.

If you really feel like your situation is unfair, just change the difficulty, sprint out of the city, and then change it back.

Do you not have any previous saves? Or are you just using one save file? No earlier autosaves?

It's in the options somewhere. Not hard to find, if you just looked instead of spent time posting.

Turn -off- autosave? That's what saves my ASS most of the time.
But yea, it can be turned off. Again, somewhere in the options.

I go through Very Hard in the vault, switch it to easy for the first few levels after that, and then I put back to Normal permanently once I am confident about my stimpak and ammo supply.

My reccomendation is simply to play the game; the player house isn't something you're likely to miss, so you needn't actively try for it. That said, if you simply must know, look below.
Spoiler:
You will earn yourself a house by completing the main quest for the town of Megaton--either by advancing Mr. Burke's plans or by foiling them. More specifically, blowing up the town of Megaton will get you a suite at Tenpenny Tower, while saving Megaton will get you the Megaton shack you saw. You cannot have both.

Head over to the Bomb and disarm it. Report to Lucas Simms to receive your caps, plus your own residence in Megaton where you can store your items.

Huh. That wasn't hard to find on GameFaqs at all. I wonder if we knew that when we made the suggestion to look there?
