I prefer graphics, I dunno.

But people aren't so iffy about showing themselves here, because they won't get "PIX OR GTFO" "BOOBS NAO" "MARRY ME PLZ" and crap.

I've always liked having a face as my avatar, but never been comfortable posting my own. So, this is my compromise.

I am very much in favor, though I can't tell you why. I am not a huge fan of the eyebrow thing, but as far as the faces themselves go, I like it. Perhaps it's just the standardization: it looks more professional, for one thing. But I honestly don't know.

A spokesperson from FaiD has already claimed responsibility. So far, I have come up with three theories to explain why they did it:

- Someone put up their face as their avatar to show off their new haircut/hat/digicam. Others thought it to be a new trend and wanted to be the first on the bandwagon and it snowballed from there. When they realized what happened, they agreed to pretend it was intentional.

- The raptor apocalypse is imminent. Having identified the fora as the most likely origin of organized resistance, the raptors infiltrated FaiD, which is already known for occasionally spreading unexplained in-jokes to the other areas, and started this trend. Robbed of their faceless anonymity, everyone who falls into their trap willl soon be neutralized by packs of taloned assassins.

- It's a social experiment to see how many people they can get to change therir avatars for no reason other than 'everyone else is doing it'.
Or maybe just to see how many people will ask what's up with all the face avatars instead of using the search function.

I'm actually hoping we can quell those facts. I would very much like the face-as-avatar trend to become a quirky feature of this corner of the internet rather than a passing fad. Of course, that probably won't happen, but I really, really hope it does.

The problem I have is that some people's faces are very distracting [They just stand out], and Chrome doesn't have the nice built-in "Block Image.." like Konqueror does, and I really hate to split my browsing like this. [Konqueror has Flash, but crashes regularly, so Chrome is preferred for non-Flash browsing]

I'll probably add mine soon.

Meh, I;d like it better if people were ageless and occupationless on the internet (kind of Anonymous, but not really). Knowing what someone looks like in real life kind kind of spoils the fun.

As for why, I have this strange idea it has something to do with modship...

Edit: I;d forgotten about that...

I like it for the exact opposite reason. It prevents people from being Anonymous. It makes you into a person rather than some faceless entity on the other side of the internet.

I never sue my face as an avatar... I always use something strange and a bit abstract that (sort of) (barely) tells people what kind of person I am.

For example, mine:

I like technical things/computers

I like puzzles

I like to make you dig out your cellphone/barcode reader to find out what it actually says.

When I saw all the face avatars, I thought "Oooh, ooh, faces, I should do that!" And then realized that my avatar is already my face, and replacing it with a webcam picture in which I look cynical wouldn't necessarily be an improvement.

Rofl, I don't like using my face as an avatar. It took me a long time to get over just posting my face on the internet, much less using my face where I can see it all the time. Though, I have used my face as an avatar before, it was because I was making an awesome fishyface, but the picture is quite out of date. I don't mind seeing other people's faces, it's just my own all over the place that makes me wanna slap my avatar and smack it with a whip. To the face.

I love it when you come across a bunch of posts where the avatar faces have almost exactly the same expression.
