I think the only one on that teams I don't absolutely adore is Shin, as she's only 'pretty cool'. Hatched from an egg that the Nazi's were cooking for ultimate power. Oh yes. Nazis.
But I think if I had to order them, which would be pretty tricky, it'd go something like this

Agreed. Shin's always such a complete nonentity in the team, both in terms of personality and powers. I mean, you've got two people who are practically omnipotent (Jenny and the Doctor), and everyone else is... well, unbearably badass, except for her. Not just that, but they're all strong personalities (well, maybe not Apollo, but his other half makes up for that), and she just... falls by the wayside. She belongs in the Birds of Prey or something, not the Authority.

As for Ellis' other stuff, I like Planetary, but I tried the first TPB of Transmet and didn't care for it. Did anybody else feel that way, and then end up liking it after reading more?

The first year of Transmet is a collection of thigns Warren Ellis hates and wants to rant about. The second year picks up a cohesive and fantastic plot. However, if you're not enjoying the style then you won't enjoy it later.

A friend of mine just started reading Planetary and I thought to jokingly spoil it for him - for example if he was watching Titanic, tell him everyone's saved by aliens at the end or something. Something that's so outrageous that they can't take it seriously.

But... that doesn't work for Warren Ellis. I can't think of a single joking spoiler that couldn't actually appear in a story.
